My mother died in 1985, before I knew of Shirley Baker's incredible photo archive. I later realised they were at school together. Sadly I never got the chance to talk to either of them about this, or to reunite them.

9th July #otd in 1932 the wonderful photographer Shirley Baker was born in Kersal, Salford. Celebrated for her social documentary street photographs, especially of working-class, inner-city areas of Manchester and Salford. She died in 2014.
