The duty of a government can never be to run a circus. Nor is it the responsibility of the state to provide spectacles for public entertainment. A government’s foremost obligation is to function in accordance with the Constitution and the rule of law. When excessive and unchecked power is handed over to the police administration, it often awakens the deepest forms of brutality within institutions. A sense of savage triumph begins to replace justice, and unfortunately, such displays also amuse and satisfy a section of society. But none of this brings honour to the Constitution. I do not support or justify the crimes of any offender. However, even a hardened criminal cannot be paraded through a marketplace with ropes tied around them. Such acts may satisfy the cruel excitement of some people and validate institutional excesses, but they are a clear violation of both the law and the basic principles of human rights. If a government begins to behave like a circus troupe rather than a constitutional authority, the people of West Bengal may face grave suffering in the days to come. @chief_west @KolkataPolice @HowrahP @hwhcitypolice @narendramodi @AmitShah #Governorofwestbengal

It’s funny hearing the word “humiliation” for Our Prime Minister, a leader who is continuously being honoured by countries around the world with their top civilian awards. My PM is among the most internationally respected and honoured leaders in the world today, and he is the democratically elected Prime Minister of the world’s largest democracy. He has been winning democratic elections continuously for over 25 years now. First as a Chief Minister and now as Prime Minister. There are simply no words to describe how deeply millions of us love, admire, and trust him.
And as for India’s progress, leave that to us Indians. More than 1.4 billion Indians are capable enough of deciding what is good for our country. We don’t need a YouTuber sitting abroad, disconnected from India’s ground reality, pretending to be our spokesperson while building his entire online career around mocking, criticizing, and fearmongering about the very country that made him relevant.

Modi deserves to be humiliated everywhere he goes. He has not given a single press conference in 12 years since he became the Prime Minister. He fails to fulfill the basic transparency and accountability requirements of being a leader. I would like to encourage foreign journalists from other European countries to ask him questions wherever they see him, just like @HelleLyngSvends did. Embarrass him so much that he is forced to show some accountability in front of people. You will be doing great service for India’s progress.

There was a version of justice in SP's UP that was almost worse than no justice at all.
The case would be registered. An arrest would happen, sometimes. And then slowly, quietly, the machinery would work in reverse. Bail would come quickly. Charges would weaken. A compromise would be suggested. And eventually the file would gather dust in a court that had five hundred other cases and no urgency about this one.
The victim would be told to move on. The perpetrator already had.
That version of justice is what this viral video claims it brings back. And it is a reminder of exactly what was at stake in changing it.

This is the infographic map created by @sumeetnmehta , which shows the smuggling routes from Bangladesh into West Bengal. These routes are used to smuggle drugs, contraband, cattle, gold and other precious metals; and most importantly, the routes are also used heavily for human trafficking.
Diamond Harbour is the distribution point for all these smuggled goods, including trafficked women, moving within and outside India.
Many Bangladeshi girls rescued in West Asia, have told that they were first brought from Bangladesh into West Bengal, and thereon trafficked to West Asia via India.
