@RAILMag Getting that trip to Rochester/Syracuse down by an hour would be pretty huge. I still think it should be sub five hours for it to be competitive with driving but this makes a world of difference.

@EWR787 @RAILMag It's faster via driving... doesn't mean it would be faster via rail. Water level route would be much easier to get up to speed. The Central always held the best Buffalo -> NYC times for a reason.

@RAILMag Part of any plan should include getting on board with NY Penn-Scranton service. The quickest route from NY Penn to Buffalo is not through Albany but rather Scranton and Binghamton. The Southern tier needs rail too, perhaps Amtrak could re-route the Lake Shore and Maple leaf.

@Zeulosence Because she's no longer challenging the status quo, she's become it. If she went up there and called for an arms embargo on Israel. Spoke about M4A, or federal jobs guarantee. Didn't lie and kiss Kamala's ass, that'd be a different story.

I'm sorry to the folks I fundraised off, pushed to phone bank and door knock. To the people I told that AOC, as a Brand New Congress & Justice Dems recruited candidate, would bring change by challenging the status quo. From Ruckus to opportunists. I'm beyond disappointed too.

Reasons why its expensive: - Amtrak currently doesn't have enough rolling stock to meet demand - You are getting 3 course meals, free coffee, snacks and waters the entire trip - Amtrak has to largely subsidize the long distance routes, sleepers are a bonus cont...
daisy “dan goose” tackett@fatstevebuscemi

i looked at taking an Amtrak to a festival in pennsylvania in a few months. all the trips are like 28+ hours long which would be fine if i could take a sleeper roomette. however, it’s nearly $900 each way. $1800 to sleep. insane.

@stvcrtr Also super good move on the pinch runner, the breakdown says it's all about his "read" but that's just smart baseball. He knows he can get back to second in time if it gets caught because the focus will be on the guy running home after the catch - so he just takes a fat lead.

Had a great meeting yesterday with numerous @CityOfCincy officials, @OKIRCOG, @AmtrakConnects and other stakeholders. @HamiltonOh has been placed on the new proposed 3C+D rail route! What a great win for our city and major step forward to bringing passenger rail to our city! 🚆

@RAILMag 90b still speeds up the schedule by almost an hour and a half for other reasons, it's not just the speed changes.

Looking at the NYSDOT EIS and thinking why isn't avg. speed improving with more tracks & increase to 90 mph top speed? B/c it's still the same railroad of the NY Central era, same geometry. Amtrak does the same NYC-BUF time today as the Central did. Curvy parts remain curvy...
RAIL Magazine@RAILMag

@forzamilan821 These stretches between Syracuse & Rochester and Amsterdam & Herkimer should illuminate the problem. Even with extra tracks, you can't go any faster than you can now, which isn't even 79 mph in these curvy portions. You need to build an entirely new, straight railroad.

@BlackWolfNews @JaxTrelly @LiamBlank Hahah yeah man remember when all the railroads were run by private groups and they completely abandoned all passenger rail service outside of a few profitable lines? That'll totally work.

@JaxTrelly @LiamBlank The common denominator here, is Amtrak. Sell the tracks and trains to a private group, say Bezos or Musk, and watch it flourish.

@sandypsj What exactly does APV mean? Just that it has the pantograph, or does it have traction motors, too? I guess these will be basically permanently mated to the locos?

@RAILMag @classicryan17 Definitely not an EMU. It’s actually an “APV” or auxiliary power vehicle. It’s directly connected to the loco and supplies power when it’s under wires

@classicryan17 Yeah, I don’t read that as an EMU, since that car is specifically labeled as the APV/Bus. An EMU would have at least half of the coaches with independent power. On the consists without the APV/Bus, I’d wager the pantograph will be on the ALC-42Es, not on the Venture coaches.

@mitchvdb Hahaha yes I share this trauma. I still have a big pedalboard but it currently only has one delay and reverb on it.

I think I finally figured out why I have a strong aversion to large pedalboards these days. I suffered a lot of religious trauma in my lifetime and towards the end of my time in the church, big pedalboards were all the rage.

@vanshnook It doesn't have good ridership because the Empire Service has terrible frequency, it's super slow, and its all in all still more expensive then driving by a long shot for most of the areas it serves.

Funny to me how quickly this guy went from being “if Jon Stewart was president of a country” to “best president in Europe” in the span of two days. Incredible amount of respect for how he’s handling an impossible situation.
