Sabitlenmiş Tweet

I landed a paying client 2 weeks after starting my business and Twitter.
I had:
- No network
- No experience
- 70 followers (most of which were bots)
Here's how I did it (without any help):
I wanted to offer copywriting, but I had no idea what it was or how to do it.
All I knew was that I needed people who were looking for copywriting.
So before I started learning copywriting, I spent my time outreaching.
• I put together a crap offer
• Offered a 1-week free trial of work
• No-lifed Twitter DMs until I landed a client
My offer was just "copywriting" – it wasn't clear whatsoever.
My target audience was anyone with "CEO," "Owner," or "Founder" in their bio.
If I can get a client with a crap offer and no clear target audience, you can definitely get one with a clear offer and a clear target audience.
The secret to landing a client though (despite my amazingly bad offer), was DMs.
My DMs were insane...insanely shit.
I did everything you SHOULDN'T do.
• Pitched my offer immediately
• Did not research my prospects
• Didn't build any sort of connection
I just put together a template that offered free work in exchange for a testimonial.
Then I copied/pasted that template, replaced the first name, and sent it to everyone with "CEO" in their bio.
So if my DMs were the equivalent of shit covered in shit, then how did I land clients? Consistency, my friend.
I no-lifed Twitter DMs and sent that template to 100+ people per day.
Some days I would get into a giant flow state and pump out over 300 DMs.
This process took about 3-4 hours a day.
And I did it for 7 days straight, with a total of about 1,500 DMs sent.
In 99% of those DMs, I was either:
• Ignored
• Blocked
• Told to "fuck off and get a life"
I guess that last point had some truth to it since I did no-life the absolute fuck out of DMs.
But 0.5% of people seemed to be interested.
So after following up on those people, hoping to turn them into a client, here's what happened (this is where it gets exciting):
• Got ignored
• Got blocked
• Got told they were no longer interested
Great. Everything was going my way.
But out of everyone – Out of 1,500+ DMs – 1 person took me up on my offer.
(That's a conversion rate of 0.07% – arguably the worst conversion rate ever).
We jumped on a call where we outlined what I was going to do for him.
The funny part is, he did all the outlining.
Because my offer was literally just "copywriting," he told me what copywriting he wanted.
He wanted website copy, and I agreed.
Okay, so I'm now doing free work for someone, but we have 1 problem:
I still have no idea what the fuck copywriting is.
I spent all my time on outreach and none of it on learning what the fuck I was offering.
I stopped sending DMs, and started to no-life even harder on learning copywriting.
• I watched YouTube tutorials
• I wrote pieces of copy by hand
• I signed up to and read newsletters
I had no books or courses for this.
Mainly because my work had now started and it was too late to order a book or go through a course. I needed to learn it now.
Long story short (even though it's been quite long already), he loved the work I did for him.
After the week of free work, we agreed on a monthly payment of $550/mo.
I guarantee if I spent even just 1 hour on my offer and target audience I would have landed multiple clients faster and for more money.
Anyway, fast forward to today and I've been able to:
• Land 7-figure clients
• Work on big projects
• Work less than 4 hours a day
I've done everything wrong and made every mistake in the beginning.
I promise you will do better than I did if you take the lessons from this and apply them to your life.
Takeaway from this:
• Start before you're ready
• No-life the most important task (i.e outreaching if you have no clients)
• Stay consistent no matter what feedback you get (like being told to "fuck off and get a life")
• You don't need experience, authority, or any social proof – you can offer free work to land clients to gain experience, authority, and social proof
Action steps to land your first client by the end of the month:
1) Create an offer that involves 1 week of free work in exchange for a testimonial
By giving a specific time to work for free ("1 week of free work"), you avoid the trap of working multiple weeks for free and never getting paid.
Setting clear deadlines is key to avoiding that trap.
(don't obsess over this, just put a clear and specific offer together)
2) Pick a target audience that can afford your services, are easy to find, are a growing market, and has a problem you can solve
3) Focus 99% of your efforts on outreach (send AT LEAST 100 DMs a day)
Pro Tip: Gather a list of accounts to message first BEFORE sending any DMs. Never gather leads and send them a message at the same time.
4) Focus 1% of your efforts on posting content to build your authority (How tos, mistakes to avoid, solving pains, etc) – this just builds a "portfolio" of your competence which will make people more inclined to hire you
5) Once you get people interested, offer free value in DMs (don't tell them the "how" - only the "what" and "why")
Doing this builds trust so they'll be more inclined to take your offer.
6) Once someone takes your offer, remind them that the first week is free and in exchange for a testimonial
7) Overdeliver as much as you can – this will build trust, and authority, and will make your social proof 100x better.
8) Once the week of free work is over, ask for a testimonial. Get a video testimonial if possible (these show the most credibility), but text is fine.
9) Ask permission to turn the work you did for them into a case study. You can use this for content to build authority, show social proof, and land more clients.
10) Repeat steps 6-9 for a total of 5-10 times.
11) Stop working for free. Leverage your testimonials and case studies along with your offer and slap a price tag on it.
And because you set a clear deadline of 1 week for your "free" clients, you can now offer them your work in exchange for payment (and since you overdelivered and brought them great results, they'll trust you).
If your current clients don't want to continue working with you (if they can't afford it or don't have a reason to keep working), then politely ask for a referral.
(don't be shy with your pricing – you'd be surprised how much people would pay for your services especially when you have a ton of social proof)
Outreach is the most needle-moving task you can do, so prioritise it. Don't do anything else until you have your 100 DMs sent every day and you land a "free" client.
That's it.
You now have a full roadmap to start making money with your online business by the end of the month.
If you found value in this post, all I ask from you are 2 free things:
1) Like this tweet
2) Comment or repost
Doing those 2 things will also help get this in front of more people who want to start monetising their skills.
Thank you for reading!
P.S. – I'm now offering one-to-one coaching sessions for writers who want to create a consistent income with their writing and work less than 4 hours a day.
