Unfortunately, my one proposal for an SBL paper this year was not accepted, so unless I receive a surprise invitation to participate in a session as a respondent, I will probably not be in Denver for the annual meeting (my funding is contingent upon being on the program).

Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. There is no lack of resources at the root of disparities, but the need to address solvable problems related to a more equitable distribution of wealth, to be achieved with moral sense and honesty.

Theologians: you are not astronauts or astronomers. I’m sure we from the guild soon will see posts way above a theologian’s pedigree. Unless your hobby is telescopes and studying the stars, theology only gives one so much ground (ha, get it!) to speak on highly technical

I’m delighted that my paper proposal on invisible enslaved labor in the Mishnah was accepted for SBL this November! I tested out some of the this paper’s ideas in conversation with colleagues at SBL last year. It will be fun to share a polished version and see how they land.

Marguerat makes me think: Externally, Luke follows Hellenistic historiography, as seen in the Greek lang and narrative prose, prolepsis, and prologue. Internally, its content arrangement/choice, use of the LXX, and divine intervention point to Jewish historiography.

My paper, Jubilees as Total History and the Struggle for the Future of Israel, was accepted in the Pseudepigrapha section for the SBL annual meeting. Really enjoying my work on this book and I look forward to sharing it with y’all. See you in Denver!
