Today marks two years since my mom was killed in a car accident. It's still so surreal to me, two years later and admittedly I think still a bit numb to it all. I've spoken about it very publicly my on-going struggles with grief. Two years later, I'm certainly better. But the emotional waves still come back to hit me at the most inopportune times. That day replays in my head every day since. If you've experienced a sudden loss of someone extremely close to you, you may know it. My mom went out for her daily walk with my dad like they always did, and never came home. A pickup blew a stop sign and hit her while they crossed the street. In the split of a second our lives changed. My dad witnessed it all. I flew to my parent's home immediately upon learning of this and was greeted with a house that that very morning was just a normal day. Entering the home my mom's stuff was still out, breakfast from that morning. Bed un-made. Cell phone receiving texts. It's haunting in a way, one minute you're alive then next, you're not. You just stare at these things, unable to touch them or move them. It's almost like a home you grew up in, something so random as a half-filled coffee mug becomes a time capsule to a better time. As a Christian we're filled with hope that we will see our loved ones again in heaven. I rest on that hope, but it doesn't make it any easier despite what some in the faith say. I really miss my mom. I miss our deep talks that only a mom and son can have. It's a lot more lonely now than it was before. I'm so happy I've had a wonderful wife and now child to fill that void left, but everyone knows, it's not the same. I don't know why I'm writing this. Maybe because of my very public thoughts on this topic, maybe it is just therapeutic for me. I don't have any deep thoughts, and maybe that's the point. Death hits us all, I think about it every day, it has caused me in life to be more mindful of the projects I take on, the people I work with, and the brain power I put on stress. Life is short, for some of us too short. Take the time to call your loved ones more. Take more video of them (you'll truly want this when they're gone). Be there for the holidays, even in ecom we work the major holidays, go be with your family. It's too important not to. Fin

@abxola @tonivmurphy Yeah, I hope the person running their ads see this🙏🏽 they should run placement asset customisation, with a pre-designed 9:16 aspect ratio, to avoid this kind of thing. I know teams are usually tight on creative asks, but this can help them avoid something like this in the future!
