@KBow5 Thanks for sharing this amazing (and a bit heartbreaking) find with us, Karen! Have you been able to uncover many other details about your 4th great-grandfather's life?

Working on the family tree @Ancestry today while doing laundry... My 4th great paternal grandfather, a laborer, spent 7 days in Lancashire Eng jail for 'sleeping out' in 1768.

We are thrilled to announce a first-of-its-kind genealogy-focused partnership with @Ancestry! As part of Getty Images’ HBCU Grants Program, this initiative focuses on the digital preservation and accessibility of historical documents, records and the photographic archives of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The partnership was initiated with @LincolnUofPA whose historical archives date back to 1854. Ancestry and Getty Images have already started digitizing vital documents with Lincoln's library staff, including the Lincolnian, deteriorating records and hundreds of photographs from Lincoln's archival collection. @pufflefuzz1 That's amazing, Jenna! Having both Neil Armstrong and Wernher von Braun on your paternal line is legendary. Any science or space buffs in the family today? 🚀

I beg your finest pardon @Ancestry? THIS IS SO COOL. I’m honestly shocked that they’re both on my paternal line.

@Ancestry you deleted the ancestry tree I started and invited my family to join trying to reconnect with them/figure out why I knew almost nothing about them until I was 20?

If anyone ever asks if you've been to @burningman run as fast as possible. The @nationwide DBA, Mercedes, and someone else definitely know. I think I heard a rumor once that it's getting kicked out of the @USNavy but again, I never enlisted. My grandad with Parkinsons did though

@chewshie Uncovering stories like these is truly humbling. Family research can be such a powerful way to honour the lives and experiences of our ancestors, especially those defined by hardship and loss, so they are not forgotten. Thank you for sharing

If you haven’t cried over distant ancestors who died from dysentery, “The Black Distemper,” beheading, childbirth, or read stories of men eating sweaty moccasin boiled shoe stew to survive winter in a war fort, give it time. Dig far, cry hard, live large. @Ancestry #iRememberYou

It’s sounds like a fascinating "double connection"! While she is your aunt by marriage, the fact that she shows up as a "7th cousin" could mean you two also share a small amount of biological DNA from a common ancestor way back in possibly the 1700s or 1800s. In many communities where families lived near each other for generations, it was very common for distant cousins to eventually marry into the same circles. So, while her husband is your uncle by blood, it sounds like your aunt is both family by marriage and a very distant biological relative. It’s a great example of how our families have been crossing paths for centuries! 🌳✨

@Ancestry Is there a glitch/mistake in my tree? My aunt (my dad's sister-in-law) shows up as like "7th cousin...." etc. Her husband shows up as my uncle (as normal). Thanks!

Hi Ashley, we understand the importance of privacy! 🔐 Often, 'incorrect password' errors with a VPN are actually security blocks to prevent unauthorized access from masked IP addresses. Clearing your browser's cache or trying a different VPN server location often clears this right up. Let us know if that helps!

Hi Julie! 🗞️ It sounds like your search might currently be filtered to a specific regional collection. On the search results page, try checking the 'Location' filter on the left-hand side to ensure 'England' is selected. Also, keep in mind that much of our UK newspaper content comes via our partnership with Newspapers.com. If you have an All Access membership, you can search English titles directly there using your Ancestry login! Are you looking for a specific town or county in England?
