Unexpected events -- like job loss, medical bills, rising rent, or unsafe living situations -- can put anyone at risk of losing a stable home. People without a stable home face higher rates of preventable deaths than the general population. Understanding these trends helps guide action to close the gap. Public Health released its seventh annual report on mortality among people experiencing homelessness in LA County, showing a reduction in deaths in 2024 for the first time since tracking the homeless mortality rate began in 2014.
