Very glad to endorse my friend @TomSteyer for governor of CA. Tom will fight Trump's fossil fuel corruption to bring down electricity costs, and he will make polluters pay. I don't know anyone better to forge a pathway to climate safety and to lead through the economic storm.

Look, do I wish California would elect a conservative Republican in the mold of Ronald Reagan—or Steve Hilton—as its next governor? Yes.
But that’s not particularly likely.
And as conservatives, we don’t need to pretend Mahan is indistinguishable from the left flank that’s dominated California politics for the last decade and a half. That’s just not true.
He’s been a frequent, forceful critic of Newsom. The centrist views he holds are: tougher enforcement on crime and retail theft; requiring homeless individuals to accept shelter or face consequences; prioritizing shelters and getting people off the streets now over housing-first orthodoxy; tying government pay and performance to results; a more pro-growth, less regulatory approach to business and energy; and even suspending gas taxes to deliver immediate cost-of-living relief to working families.
Don’t believe me? Fine. Read his website or look at his record. He’s not hiding any of this.
Regardless of all that, the point I made was narrower: a Mahan win—however unlikely—would be a damning indictment of the far-left of the Democratic Party, with significant implications for both California and national politics.
Just offering an observation... not telling folks how to vote.

It's definitely a long shot, but a Mahan win would be transformational. Not just for California, but for the entire Democratic Party—and therefore the country. Electing a sane, competent centrist technocrat to lead the biggest, bluest, most poorly managed, lefty special-interest-dominated state in America? That would be the anti-Mamdani whitepill moment.

I'm holding out hope for @MattMahanSJ for CA governor. San Jose is well governed. He cut permitting delays and built more housing. SJ actually solves violent crimes, and it turns out this reduces violent crimes! And I'd much rather elevate an effective mayor than a DC rep.

Mahan is backed by Google money and his big idea is to wipe out the gas tax which funds CA roads & cleans up our environment. He may be a good Mayor for SJ, but he's a grifter in this race trying to the GOP's bidding of hyper splitting the Dem field so that they get locked out.

Most supporters I know view Steve Hilton as their true first pick, but are gravitating toward Mahan simply because they don't believe a Republican can win. Even among Mahan’s base, the genuine enthusiasm is for Steve. Mahan is beholden to his parties radical wing. Steve is the only one in the race with the backbone to fix CA’s problems.
