Everybody is freaking out about the midterms but would a Dem Congress be radically different than the current Republican shitshow? They haven’t codified shit and can’t even get the SAVE Act through. Nothing matters lmao.

@charlesmurray I seek out younger East Asian physicians who attended quality schools. Theory being the most heavily discriminated against during admissions must be extremely smart in order to have made it into the program.

[This was written in response to a post that apparently is now unavailable]. I'm curious about the numbers on people preferring docs of their own color. It's not intuitively obvious in the same way that women preferring female gynecologists and men preferring male internists is. I can't resist giving my own family's roster. Me: Persian internist, Korean cardiologist, black dentist, Latino opthalmologist, black dermatologist. Wife: white internist, Filipino/Chinese obstetrician, Latino immunologist, South Asian opthalmologist, black dermatologist. The kids' pediatricians were white. Isn't that typical in today's America? And, just for the record, all of the above physicians have been terrific. The only physician whom I ever wanted to sue for malpractice (didn't do it), was white.

Everything the government touches rises in cost. The tragedy is that people then turn to the very institution that created the problem to solve it , only for its solutions to make matters worse. So it goes…

My dad got a blood clot last year. ER visit: $31,000. Insurance covered: $6,200. He owed: $24,000. He has insurance. He has a supplemental plan. He's 71 years old and making payment arrangements. The American healthcare system doesn't fail people. It was designed this way.

Wild to watch Shein acquire Everlane. Two completely opposite ends of the brand principles spectrum, yet manufacturing scale wins again. Everlane built itself as the antidote to fast fashion, only to eventually become part of the machine it once pushed against. The real moat was never just branding, it was supply chain dominance.

Shein is acquiring Everlane. Luckin Coffee is acquiring Blue Bottle. Anta Sports acquired controlling stake in Puma, Arcteryx, Salomon. Chinese consumer brands have quietly become global.

@elonmusk @GuntherEagleman Identifying the shooter isn't very important right now. The most important thing is to get the system right, abolish gun law in America and save lives.

BREAKING: There are now reports of THREE PEOPLE who lost their lives at the Islamic Center shooting in San Diego. "There are two teachers or staff from the school to be more specific, that have been killed as a result of the shooting. That is separate from the suspects we are hearing about."

I am about to enjoy the Sunday evening cigar and scotch so let's play a game. There are vast amounts of cliche and personal animosity slop so let's break it down: You are the lead negotiator for the Trump admin dealing with China. You are tasked with formulating the US position an strategy to deal with China. What are you asking for, what will you sacrifice? There are three rules. 1. It must be plausible for both sides 2. The deal must have a near 100% probability of being adhered to through the end of the current administration. 3. You must be detailed and specific in your proposals. No cliches like Trump is transactional, weak, etc. Only thing that counts are specific results, gives, and takes. I am skeptical there is anything there but I am all ears. Impress me people

Data centers are the leading cause of a 76% increase in the cost of electricity for America's largest power grid over just the first 3 months of this year, according to Bloomberg. The 13-state grid managed by PJM serves 67 million people, and costs have spiked this year. This time last year the cost of electricity on this grid was $77.78 per megawatt-hour. Now that cost has almost doubled to $136.53 per megawatt-hour. Bloomberg attributes that skyrocketing cost to the "booming demand from artificial intelligence data centers, which require vast amounts of energy and are putting a significant burden on America’s aging power grids." @FabiusMaximus01 @PaulRoundy1 @MorePerfectUS They have become significantly cheaper (see TX) and ROI on a data center is such that they can afford the expense. Unfortunately they are politically unpopular. CA desperately needs more off peak usage to broadly distribute the cost of the delivery infrastructure.

@lb_412 @PaulRoundy1 @MorePerfectUS The cost to operators of data centers of that would be astronomical. They want exemptions from local taxes AND cheap electricity (cost-shifting to residents) - and these facilities probably will still be unprofitable.

This doesn't quite check out, there are Supply concerns that have become worse in some states like California and New York, but the state with the greatest number of data centers is virginia, and it's electricity prices are considerably cheaper. Fortunately, that technology being developed at these data centers can be used to increase the efficiency and production of our electrical grid, including helping us solve Fusion, which will result in incredibly abundant low cost energy with only a small strain on resources.

You are blindly cheering for a multi-billion dollar corporation while completely ignoring the people who actually have to live next to it. Also you’re really comfortable with giving up our agricultural land and water for a glorified server room so that we can slopify anything and everything.
