“Stop the massacres! Stop the rapes! Stop the Rwandan occupation!” Hundreds of Congolese diaspora took the streets in Brussels Monday, against EU complicity in the violence in eastern DRC. Marching toward the European Parliament, protestors accused the US and EU of backing the Paul Kagame government in Rwanda, with the ultimate goal of seizing Congo’s land and strategic minerals.

On May 15, the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel was extended by 45 days –– yet, Israel’s murders of Lebanese civilians have continued every day, as they have since the April 16th ceasefire. Israel is applying the Gaza model to Lebanon. liberationnews.org/israel-applies…

✊🏾On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was brutally murdered in an act of police brutality that would ignite the largest mass movement in the history of the United States. Millions of people came out into the streets, here and around the world, in a new and even more massive wave of the movement for Black lives. This enormous movement took place despite the pandemic lockdowns, with so many people recognizing the issue of police violence as a life or death issue that required everyone to take an urgent stand regardless of the circumstances. As the capitalist government abandoned working people amid the pandemic, the protests also became a way to express total rejection of a system that clearly had no regard for human life. Because of the pressure of the people’s movement, the state had no choice but to indict and ultimately convict the police officers who murdered George Floyd. But the struggle against racist police brutality continues — an injustice built in to the very foundations of this system. The vast wealth of the U.S. billionaire class has always been dependent on the exploitation and oppression of Black people. Racist violence has likewise been a permanent feature of this society as a way to sow terror. But as the movement of 2020 showed, there will always be massive resistance.

Today is African Liberation Day — a time to commemorate heroic victories against colonialism and capitalism in Africa and rededicate ourselves to continuing that fight today. 40,000 residents of Garden Grove, California have been evacuated in the wake of a toxic chemical leak from GKN Aerospace. The leak began on Thursday, May 21, when a 34,000-gallon tank of methyl-methacrylate began to overheat. Many evacuated residents have already reported facing respiratory issues from breathing fumes and explained that in many cases the evacuation orders were slow and uneven, criticizing the response from local and state authorities.

In 1983 the US launched an invasion of the small island Grenada, for the crime of socialism. The bloody invasion left over 100 Grenadians and Cubans killed, 500+ injured, and totally destroyed Grenadian infrastructure. The US Navy bombed a mental hospital killing 18 Grenadians.

Donald Trump announced that he wants to suspend the federal gas tax in response to surging gas prices caused by the U.S. war on Iran and the resultant closing of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran. While Trump as president can’t do it on his own, there is bi-partisan interest in Congress for a bill to suspend the tax. On the surface, it might look like Trump and other politicians are concerned about the very real impact of skyrocketing gas prices on working families. But suspending the federal gas tax is a phony gesture designed to make it look like they care, while failing to address the actual cause of the problem.
