🇧🇷 Samba for Popular Agrarian Reform 🌾 ‘The word “culture” comes from agriculture, says Patrícia Lafalce, Carnaval director of Acadêmicos do Tatuapé. Culture, at its roots, is about the production and reproduction of life, from cultivating the land to nourishing our bodies and spirits to the formation of new human beings. 🎊 While Carnaval is often seen as a commercial industry, its heart beats in working-class communities and the history of formerly enslaved Africans who brought their communal traditions from rural plantations to the city.  “There is so much land without people, and so many people without land.”  This year 2,000 community members and sixty MST @MST_Oficial militants marched demanding agrarian reform. Through towering floats and a thunderous percussion ensemble, they delivered a vital message: "If the countryside doesn't plant, the city doesn't eat."  The MST's presence at Carnaval 2026 showed that joy and celebration of life are part of the struggle for agrarian reform and for the survival and nourishment of the entire country. 🇧🇩 You need to know these four major implications of the 2026 Bangladesh election. The February 2026 vote has been presented as a democratic turning point, but reality shows election engineering. New Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is facing a wave of online opposition, labelling him "The Engineer." This shift moves Bangladesh away from its secular foundations and toward a "moderate Islamic state" that better serves US regional strategy. For 15 years, the Awami League (AL) was dominant, exploring participation in the Belt and Road Initiative, BRICS membership, and challenging IMF and World Bank dominance. However, the AL has been barred from elections.  The 2024 regime change and mobilisations suppressed working class voices and brought to power the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (BJI). These parties do not represent the people, but instead corporate interests aligned with US imperialism.  The five Chittagong port workers who protested the leasing of a public terminal to a foreign corporation remain in jail. Hugo Chavez and the Bolivarian Revolution changed that; oil revenues were recovered for the public good.  🏠 The 2011 Great Housing Mission of Venezuela redefined housing as a constitutional right, no longer a speculative commodity controlled by banks and private markets. Venezuela house millions of families by building over 5.25 million homes, with a goal of 7 million homes by 2030. Despite facing 927 unilateral sanctions and a 99% collapse in foreign income due to economic warfare, and direct attacks, the Bolivarian Revolution continues. Leaders of the International Peoples' Assembly and Pan‑Africanism Today met with representatives of the Thomas Sankara Memorial Center, honoring the legacy of one of Africa’s most important revolutionaries. Sankara’s government pursued land reform, national sovereignty over resources, and a radical program for women’s liberation, appointing women to leadership roles, promoting mass literacy, and declaring that “the revolution and women’s liberation go together.”  Sankara was assassinated in 1987, but his ideas continue to inspire movements across the continent. He famously said “While revolutionaries as individuals can be murdered, you cannot kill ideas.” Today, popular movements and new political leadership in countries like Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger are challenging the neocolonial order and demanding sovereignty over their resources, economies, and political futures. Since then, they have been detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York. Their lawyer stated that Cilia suffered serious injuries. ✊🌿 Justice for Berta! March 2 marked ten years since the assassination of Indigenous Lenca leader Berta Cáceres, founder of @COPINHHONDURAS . Ten years of hope. 🚨 In January 2026, the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) released a report on her murder. It concluded that Berta’s killing was not an isolated act, but a premeditated crime. The report found that Berta’s murder was orchestrated by executives of DESA, the Honduran company behind the Agua Zarca dam, along with members of the Atala Zablah family. They used corporate funds, security forces, and hired killers, while state authorities failed to intervene and later obstructed justice. Ten years later, we still demand justice! The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) won a two-thirds supermajority, giving Takaichi enough power to advance an ultra-right agenda with virtually zero opposition.  How did they achieve this? The LDP used timing, social media influence, and a skewed electoral system to manufacture this result. 🚨🇻🇪 Congresswoman Cilia Flores and President Nicolás Maduro have been held for 60 DAYS in the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York.  The deadly January 3 attacks on Caracas breached international law on the principle of non-intervention, and their illegal kidnapping violated Venezuelan sovereignty under the UN Charter. On that day, Cilia suffered serious injuries and was seen with bandages at her first arraignment.  Now the US is violating basic constitutional protections and due process; Maduro’s legal defense funding was revoked without explanation, blocking his constitutional right to choose a lawyer. While Maduro and Cilia continue to be held without bail, the trial initially scheduled for March 17 has been pushed back until March 26, citing “logistical scheduling issues.” From the moment the US bombed Caracas and kidnapped Maduro and Cilia, we knew this would not be a fair trial.
