@end3of6days9 Elementary band teacher here. This is a very common occurrence. I teach a unit at the beginning of the year in which my students learn a poem for their treble clef note names. I teach this in a variety of different ways every day. 40% of my students fail the test.

This teacher is sharing one of those classic classroom moments: the simple warm-up was just “copy this sentence twice”. Instead, he ended up in a full back-and-forth with one student who kept asking for clarification on the most basic things — “Do I write it twice?”, “Do I have to fill every line?”, “Do I put the period?” — turning an easy task into a comedy sketch. I probably would have turned this question back to his classmates and had them explain it, that way it's a critical thinking moment for the whole class. Have you ever had to explain something that felt completely obvious to you… only to realize it wasn’t obvious at all to the other person? Teachers, parents, and anyone who’s ever tried to give clear directions — I’d love to hear your stories!

@JustJenRX Yup, yup and more yup!!!! Kids are not being held accountable by their parents, which is the biggest issue in schools. Soft parenting does not work. You don't need to abuse your kids, but they desperately need strong, loving accountability.

Lone little White boy in a house with at least three other Blacks (whom he thought were friends), only to be set up and ATTACKED. He was hit in the face and head repeatedly while the other “friend” laughed and recorded. Teach your White children they are not safe with them.

@0riettaRose This is a major issue in public schooling. Parents and admin are being whipped by students. Kids are scared of chellenges, they want everything spoon fed, that's the way life works. If parents don't step up to the plate and allow their kids to fail at a few things...

@AmiriKing Black women need to allow black men to parent their sons. Shaniqua has been significantly over glorified by rich white liberals. Let solid, conservative black men take the lead, listen to the strength of their convictions. It will take at least 10 years, but it is doable.

This is just a never ending cycle and it’s only going to get worse. Do you think this can be fixed? And how?
