Great weekend for Laundry Cottage Stud as Via Sistina wins Group 1 Cox Plate in Australia, top sire Wootton Bassett also bred here has two Group 1 winners in France and That’s Amore ex Rubira wins impressively first time out at Newbury.

Laundry Cottage Stud Farm - breeders of the sire of the winner of the Qipco Champion Stakes ( King of Steel by Wootton Bassett), and breeders of the second horse, Via Sistina. To keep it in the family, the winner was bought for owner Kia Joorbachian by son in law Alex Elliott.

@bertthebold Totally agree. We have had lots of problems with fireworks over the years. At the very least, folks should use muted noise ones.

We’ve had two mares abort this week, both on nights where there were fireworks on locally. It’s a huge occupational hazard for our business. Don’t let anyone tell you that fireworks don’t upset animals.

Last night I watched ,on GSOperaTV ,the D’Oyly Carte 1966 film of The Mikado with the incomparable Valerie Masterson,John Reed, Kenneth Sandford etc. Great escapism back to better days!

I love this photo of my mum. She loved the Highlands, where she spent the last 15 years of her life, she loved singing and dancing and a G&T, and she loved all of us. We miss her. Happy birthday, mum.

Every time I hear the hated word”quarantine” I am struck how phonetically close it is to - the much preferable- “ Carntyne”. Of course , it was from there that Billy Connolly’s “3 men” set out to join the parish. Well worth a google!!!

@KenGodsman Neil was a gem of a man. He had time for everyone and gave so much to the town in so many ways. His passing is very sad indeed.
