@itvracing Breege owner… it saddens me when large men have heart attacks and remain large years later. No lessons learned.

@chrisgambler247 @HarryStewartMo1 Yes I had seen this; but I think it is a recent rewrite (Wikipedia states it differently). Their board lacks specialist skills and looks unsuitable for anything other than basic consumer protection.

@bertthebold @HarryStewartMo1 One of their objectives: 'ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way' This type of practice surely breaches that?

I don't tend to comment on specific instances of operator conduct but am making a rare exception. 🧵 In January a guy opens an account with a regulated online casino operator. He deposits £1,500 with no source of funds checks and immediately starts playing a live casino game..

@JamesProwse18 Need more info really (mares name, budget etc). Feels like a stallion son of Dubawi might be best. Maybe consider SPACE BLUES.

@KatyMowat Our one came back unsold. I wasn’t surprised even though I think he’ll work out - he’s a bit of a different (old fashioned) physical type and it feels like the market is very focused on certain types at the moment.

Having sired the German Derby winner & the first three home in the German Oaks, I was hoping Sea The Moon would have a good sales season so it’s fabulous to see lot 427 knocked down to Shadwell for 575k guineas. I believe she is his highest priced yearling to date …

@KatyMowat I’ve changed my mind - my model actually prefers Sea the Moon. My view on Lope De Vega is, that although he is obviously an outcross, I wouldn’t use him as a fix for a heavy ND mare. I don’t think the data really supports that.

@bertthebold Had looked at Wootton Bassett but not Almanzor I must admit. Elite sire outcrosses, No Nay Never or Lope de Vega? I’m not going to look at Japanese sires as I’m loathe to lose another wonderful German mare to their prodigious broodmare band …

A few of the obvious first covers for India. Perhaps I should have opted for Sea The Moon rather than Sea The Stars given his success in Germany? Must admit to liking the idea of Kingman as he has a good track record with German families. Your thoughts?

@KatyMowat I think Territories is underrated. I had thought of him as a miler but he seems to be imparting a bit more stamina. My concerns over Invincible Spirit are that I don’t really believe in him as a broodmare sire. I Am Invincible looks like an interesting sire (not in Europe OFC)

Where have we got to with sons of Invincible Spirit in Europe? Who’s hot & who’s not? I ask in the context of Territories who seems to get results on track but little love in the ring. Any thoughts on him or the sire line in general appreciated. TIA.

@An0therGift @ThomasKerrRP I’ve spoken to loads of big punters about affordability; and I’m not aware of a single one who supports it. No-one in the betting industry supports it. The only group I am aware of who might support it are the ‘affected others’. This is the nub of it.

We told the Gambling Commission we welcomed a letter about its proposals, just as we routinely approach it for comment on relevant stories. However, we told the GC we were unwilling to publish a letter if it misrepresented disagreements over our coverage as errors of fact. (1/3)

In recent months, the @RacingPost has provided readers with imbalanced stories about the ongoing financial risk consultation and frequently failed to seek a right of reply from us. We penned a letter to the Racing Post’s readers page to clear up any misunderstandings. (1/2)

@Golfpunter1 You won’t last long in your job if you do. I speak from personal experience here - you cannot ask or expect senior management in betting companies to run their businesses sub optimally. The regulator must establish and maintain the rules intelligently and fairly.

@Golfpunter1 …massively profitable but is bending the rules in a way that makes you uncomfortable. Are you going to turn you nose up and allow your rival to take a lead (and potentially watch your business go down the drain) because your principles are getting in your way?

Just your monthly reminder. The broken mess called the gambling industry is in its current state because of pure unadulterated greed from the bookmakers. They could have implemented sensible strategies to customers doing their conkers. Nope. Given chance after chance. Nope. They wanted it all. Everyone is paying for it now. They have no shame. When horse racing is on its knees don't forget those industry lifers who helped oversee what is happening. They love the sport though. Just not as much as lining their own and others pockets. I see so much angst directed at everyone but the bookmakers. The regulators are very culpable in the mess but they are just incompetent. Trying to step in and clear up the mess caused by bookmaker greed. Lest we also not forget the role the media have played. Money was all that mattered to them. Nothing like a big juicy cut of the big losing punters. They couldn't see the bigger picture. All the articles and stories now. Far too little, far too late. Suddenly realising the shit is about to hit the fan. Self preservation in overdrive. Don't forget those 'influencers' who were happy to keep taking the bookmaker money in return for silence. So when you can't get a £10 bet on a major sporting event without proving your income and selfies in front of your front door just remember who is to really blame. Bookmakers. And their relentless pursuit of profit. (p.s. it hasn't stopped fwiw. It just takes a slightly different form now)

@Golfpunter1 It’s not normal for a regulatory body to have no industry representation or expertise. If they had got the rules right in the first place there wouldn’t have been an issue then and arguably there wouldn’t be a problem now.

@Golfpunter1 The goalposts have moved mostly IMO because of a shift in political thinking; but also because the regulator wasn’t really on it before. My bugbear is that the UKGC doesn’t seem to get the industry; and that is because they don’t don’t have anyone ex industry on their board.
