As a foreigner, I find it difficult to grasp how popular the LPL really is in China, so I did my own little fun experiment during my trip in China of wearing LPL jerseys and see if they would be recognized. The result was very fun, many Chinese people would regularly point towards my jerseys. Some would even ask for pictures. The IG fan from the picture on the right was shocked when he saw me in Chongqing, probably wondering why some random white dude was wearing a jersey from his favorite team. He told me me that no matter how much they lose, he is always cheering for IG. Overall Esports and League Of Legends felt popular in China, I regularly saw spaces or merch dedicated to either, especially in big cities. Esports probably feels more present in South-Korea and France, but China is up there. However, given how big the country is, it doesn't surprise me that they're probably the most lucrative market for Riot Games. I'm aware this is very anecdotal, but I had a lot of fun meeting LPL fans. However I hope we can get reliable numbers about Chinese viewership someday in order to have a real comparison

Ahh sorry, I didn’t mean any offense with my message either! To give a serious answer: Sadly, ERLs today don’t really reach beyond their own local audience compared to five years ago. If Sheep covers the Spanish league, for example, mostly Spanish fans will care about it (with a few exceptions). It’s the same with Rift Legends. Since the audience is mainly Polish, the reach that kind of coverage gets is often “not worth the cost.” Esports media are already very hard to sustain financially, and even at LEC level, the audience an article gets is not always enough to justify the work behind it. Bwipo is obviously an exception because he has international recognition, so covering him is naturally worth it. That said, I do think Sheep should keep trying to build narratives around Tier 2, because in the long term that benefits everyone, including us. When there are standout moments, we try to highlight them — like the Draven play in the Italian league last week. Another difficulty is simply following 13 ERLs, all in different languages, and covering them consistently. Last year I also wrote probably the biggest report of my career, interviewing teams across all ERLs, including most Polish teams, and the conclusions were honestly quite negative. sheepesports.com/en/articles/re… Even outside ERLs, investing time into getting LCS leaks often isn’t worth it anymore because the audience is so low. Sometimes teams even give us rosters themselves just to maintain interest in the region. Poland being even more niche makes it very difficult without exclusives. Maybe in the future I’d consider welcoming someone from Poland into the media side, because that would probably create more opportunities. Bit of a messy answer, but I hope it explains things a bit better 🙂

@L1sar77 @Sheep_Esports Regular season mvp is something every sport in the world does because every team plays the exact same amnt of games, if playoffs were accounted for voting would be skewed to the players who make it farther, which is why finals mvp also exist
