@AaronBastani It really looks like Reforms base just weren’t motivated to vote. The decrease in their votes from the locals aren’t transferring to Labour, it looks like they just couldn’t be bothered

@apoliticaleye @AaronBastani That is depressing how apathetic people are. Would be interesting to know what the demographic breakdown of that was.

@AaronBastani Still a poor result for voter engagement. Just 25.1% turnout; so Labour, whilst winning did so with about 7% of the total voter availability, <1 in 10

@PolitlcsUK That is just sad. Greater Manchester is around 75% white, and yet the election will no doubt be handed to the ethnic minorities.

Why does any foreigner have any business being in Europe, then, if you're suddenly a blood-and-soil nationalist?
La Daga@salza_von8675

@visegrad24 We're talking about a Spanish enclave IN North Africa. We have NO business being there. The Spaniards are making themselves unnecessarily vulnerable.

@yadadoo20 @Sargon_of_Akkad So the English should control England in your opinion, England for the English? That's blood and soil nationalism.

@Sargon_of_Akkad Massive difference between controlling foreign lands as your own vs foreign people living in your country. Moroccans see Ceuta as their land and opposed to foreign control not foreign individuals living there or anywhere in Morocco.

🇪🇸 In Ceuta, grocery stores are being fenced off and guarded by police because hundreds of hungry migrants are waiting for a chance to loot them.

@613900a @Osint613 Do you understand geography? There’s an entire sea between Ceuta and mainland Spain. Getting into Ceuta is not the same as reaching the Spanish mainland. Those are completely different scenarios.

@LEGS223 @visegrad24 According to your own countries propaganda outlet, not quite. 60k plus showed up, 25k left willingly. They should be heading home. Their invasion should fail. Spain should rethink that bullshit law they just passed that caused this nonsense.

@visegrad24 Why not just arrest the invaders and deport them? Seem a lot cheaper than barricading grocery stores.

@Albrochier There's a theory that these are the prisoners that the King released yesterday for Kings day. Some kind of show of strength maybe? Or even just a "go wild guys, this one's on me".

@Nassreddin2002 Why on throne day? The King pardoned nearly 2000 prisoners according to reports. I think they fancied a day out looting with their new found freedom and the state was more than happy to facilitate that.

My theory of what happened yesterday in Ceuta: A mix of “going with the flow” and things getting out of control IMPORTANT TO KNOW 1. In the past few weeks, the number of people swimming to Ceuta has been rising. It’s been going viral on social media. Even people from Algeria and Tunisia travelled to try -> copy cat behaviour 2. During the summer, border patrol from both sides are preoccupied with Moroccan diaspora travelling who arrive in Ceuta by ferry and want to enter Morocco 3. On the evening of 29 July, a larger group (~500) of people swam to Ceuta. And this went viral -> causing copy cat behaviour 4. 30 July (yesterday) is a national holiday. Throne Day -> to celebrate the 27th anniversary on the throne of the king 5. Moroccan authorities and media stress across the day that anyone who attempted to reach Ceuta would be returned. Riot police was deployed, videos of police shooting at people, water cannons and tear gas were used in the evening MY HYPOTHESIS 6. I suspect that Moroccan border control at some point just gave up after the 500 people swam the night before. The question remains: who gave the order? 7. They didn’t expect that tens of thousands of people would try to cross the border. Once stories went viral of people successfully crossing rather easily, people instantly ran to the border. Beach sellers, taxi drivers, train stations were full of people trying to reach the border. Total chaos on the streets. And the broader feeling is just humiliation of what happened. 8. The fact that this all happened on Throne Day, turned into a chaotic mess across the country, and media did the opposite of encouraging people, I don’t think this was deliberately planned way beforehand. Add that the crossings had already been ongoing for weeks in small numbers, it rather seems like a last minute decision that escalated 9. Hence I can conclude that the massiveness of yesterday’s crossing was the plan. Either the decision was made lower on the ranks or expectations were a few hundred rather than thousands QUESTIONS THAT REMAIN 9. Who decided to basically turn off the border patrol? I doubt it’s from the highest ranks of govt 10. Why on Throne Day? 11. What was the goal? Because the cost domestically turned out to be greater than anyone would want 12. If it was all deliberate. Why were media stressing people would be returned and why were riot police etc eventually deployed?

@btbsoco Everyone has their own theories and who to blame. But it's really not being mentioned enough that it was Kings Day in Morocco yesterday, and thousands of prisoners were pardoned. Seems to me that they all just made a bee line to the border with Spain for a days looting.
