We join Liverpool Football Club in strongly condemning the disgusting racist abuse directed at Ibrahima Konate and have offered our full support to the player and club. We are appalled by the ongoing racism players are facing on social media. Discriminatory abuse has absolutely no place in football or wider society. Anybody who chooses to abuse others is not welcome in our game and they are not a true fan. It is clear that more needs to be done to address this issue and we will work alongside clubs, football bodies, law enforcement and social media companies to ensure this remains a priority for all. Any individuals identified and found guilty of discrimination will face the strongest possible consequences, including club bans and legal prosecution.

Liverpool have called on social media companies to take action after Ibrahima Konate was targeted with racist abuse following the midweek win over Galatasaray in the Champions League. The Frenchman received a torrent of abuse across various online platforms, the severity of which compelled his club to issue a statement condemning the attacks. Konate's challenge with Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, which resulted in the forward landing awkwardly and sustaining an arm injury, appears to have triggered the online abuse that Liverpool swiftly moved to address. A New Jersey congresswoman has introduced a bill requesting that no federal funding should be used to carry out immigration enforcement activity within one mile of any FIFA World Cup match or Fan Festival during the tournament in the United States this summer.
