It makes me sad that we've not heard anything from Arsene Wenger in all of this. Surely, surely he can't be happy with what Infantino is doing? When Arsene talks, people across the world listen. But he's been silent - and still is. A man of his standing, integrity, position and influence needs to take a stand about something that is so clearly against everything he has always seeminly stood for - the good of the game.

I hate this argument so much, not only were they able to reinvest every penny of the Coutinho money, something neither Villa or Newcastle could do, Allison didn’t come in and play for free did he, what about VVD ??? These are players have later been put on 300k a week contracts

@CycBal @ADMusgrove I see the argument but unfortunately clubs have bad ownership, Hicks and Gillette for us. In the same way he disadvantaged, your new owners advantage you against the majority of the league still, how many newly promoted teams can aim for 2 seasons of UCL in 5 years?

@LFC_Ranks @ADMusgrove Ashley kept the club stable but stagnated it commercially and on-pitch. Missed sponsorship/stadium naming revenue + low investment likely cost £200-400m. NUFC should be allowed to overspend by that much, on top of current PSR/SCR. That would be fair.

But no one is saying they should be able to spend 'whatever they want.' There's a balance - and right now, the rules favour the established and stifle those with real ambition.

It’s easy for me to say, because I’m not a Villa or Newcastle fan, but I really don’t see why rules shouldn’t be put in place to stop uber rich owners coming in and spending whatever they want at any club like it’s a video game. Why shouldn’t it be related the revenues?

@CycBal @ADMusgrove His penny pinching would’ve actually given the new owners a lot of headroom to spend in the first 3 years, which helped propel them from newly promoted to champions league twice. Amanda clearly had a good plan which wasn’t built on when she left.

@dfnewland09 @TomCantonMedia As a Liverpool fan, I’d have rather kept Diaz than not, but it was decided they had to cash in to fund other signings. That’s reality for every team bar maybe Man City. Spurs especially have constantly had to sell their best players in the past.

@CycBal @ADMusgrove No one’s advocating for having an Ashley type owner in at all, I’d argue most fans had sympathy with Newcastle fans at that time. Fans also feel getting a Saudi owner shouldn’t guarantee you a PL title (something spurs haven’t won, and took Liverpool/Arsenal decades to win).

@dfnewland09 @TomCantonMedia You realise there’s spend controls in the lower leagues as well? I.e. even with restrictions on what they can spend, they have a proper 5-10 year strategy in place which is paying dividends…something Newcastle could/should have done.

@LFC_Ranks @LukeEdwardsTele What you waffling about. From the takeover happened our recruitment has been impeccable. Last season was the first real blip. Every team doesn't have 100% hit rate. Ours just came in the same window. Prior we've recruited; Isak, Bruno G, Gordon, Tonali, Botman, Hall etc.

Think this should sharpen a few minds and dampen expectations at #nufc The gap is astonishing and it shows how hard it’s been for Newcastle the last three years trying to keep pace

@dfnewland09 @TomCantonMedia No but swap strategies and Newcastle could have solidified themselves as a top 4 team whilst spending less than they have done. Giving Newcastle the money to buy more Wissa’s, Woltemade’s and Elanga’s under Howe will also not have them competing.
