♰🇵🇭 Easter 2026 in the Philippines 🇵🇭♰ 🎥 Salubong is a traditional Filipino Easter devotion that reenacts the meeting (salubong means "meeting" or "encounter") of the risen Christ with his mother, Mary, following the Resurrection.  Originating during the Spanish colonial period, it takes place at dawn when two separate processions: men carry the statue of the Risen Christ, while women accompany the statue of the Sorrowful Mother veiled in black to signify mourning.  The ceremony culminates when the processions meet. often under a structure called a galilea, where a child dressed as an angel descends to remove Mary's black veil, revealing her white-clad figure as the Virgin of Joy.  This dramatic unveiling symbolizes the end of Mary's sorrows and the triumph of life over death, accompanied by the singing of the Regina Coeli, the lighting of previously unlit torches from the Paschal Candle, and the ringing of church bells.
