Spent the day at Heckington Windmill, where I grew up. Amazing to see my family history so beautifully attached to this museum. Something I definitely did not appreciate growing up. What an amazing piece of history sat right here in Lincolnshire. A great brewery too!

@iD_Mobile_UK hey, why are new customer deals better than upgrades? If I leave and rejoin I can get a much better deal, which seems a bit silly really.

@NetflixUK The Beast in Me was sublime. I’m a huge fan of Claire Danes from my obsession with Homeland, but Carrie has now become Aggie. Don’t get me started on the magnificent Matthew Rhys- who nailed the psychopath role like he was born for it. Watch it. I insist.

@marksandspencer hello, I bought a pair of trousers, worn and washed once and just noticed when I put them in today (and got to the office) they’re like this: can I return even after wearing as they look terrible and unwearable?!

@seanmatthewsRUK Until people thought that the house was a visitor centre, and would walk in on us having breakfast. My mum would often make random Americans (who loved our Edwardian style house) a cup of tea, wouldn’t they @peterpocko!

Wow, what a wonder childhood to have grown up around that amazing windmill.
LJ@LJP5136

@seanmatthewsRUK The brewery used to be a coal packing shed. It was my great grandfather that bought the top of the mill, the sails, at a market in Boston. He then bought the storm damaged mill and made it the 8 sailed mill it is today. I grew up in the house that is now the cafe!

I had a great visit to Heckington Windmill today. And “tested” a beer at the brewery. What an amazing place to visit, one of only two eight sail windmills in the world. And I loved the little steam engine that belongs to LCC!

@Nigel_Farage All your employees rights, and I do mean ALL! Inc holiday pay, maternity leave, minimum wage, pension, employment protection , right to strike are made possible by a labour government. Reform would take these rights away.

Did Keir Starmer borrow that suit from someone a lot bigger? Crumpled at the ankles, too long in the cuff, loose enough to get another bloke in there with him. And someone please tell him about the buttons.

Dear @waitrose I want to know that the food I buy from you is slaughtered in accordance with humane and civilised practices, not under ISLAMIC law. The same would apply to Kosher. Label the food we eat. We have a right to know. I’m not a Muslim. I don’t want to eat Halal meat. “UK 5116 refers to the European Community (EC) approval number for the slaughterhouse operated by Dovecote Park (Skellingthorpe) Ltd, located in Skellingthorpe, Lincolnshire, UK. This facility is a dedicated cattle slaughterhouse. Beef processed there is halal-certified, meaning the animals undergo ritual slaughter compliant with Islamic law. Slaughter Method Cattle at this plant are slaughtered using the non-stun halal method (also known as dhabīḥah). This involves: • Pre-slaughter handling: Animals are restrained in a way that minimizes distress, typically using a head holder or pen. They must be healthy and given water beforehand. • Invocation: A Muslim slaughterman recites “Bismillah Allahu Akbar” (In the name of God, God is the Greatest) before the cut. • The cut: A single, swift incision is made with a sharp knife across the throat, severing the jugular veins, carotid arteries, and windpipe (trachea) but sparing the spinal cord to allow reflexive blood loss. This causes rapid unconsciousness through blood loss (exsanguination). • No prior stunning: Unlike standard UK regulations requiring pre-stunning (e.g., via captive bolt pistol or electric shock), halal certification here exempts stunning to meet religious requirements. The UK permits non-stun slaughter for halal and kosher meat under the Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations 1997, with ongoing debates about welfare. This method ensures the meat is permissible for Muslim consumers, and the plant’s certification confirms compliance. Post-slaughter, carcasses are inspected for food safety by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and processed further for beef production. For general UK beef slaughter (non-halal), stunning is mandatory, but UK 5116 specifically uses the halal process. If this isn’t the intended reference, provide more details for clarification.”
