Very pleased to share my work in the latest issue of #ArmsControlToday! For the first time in decades, nuclear weapons are trending in US media. Why now? What do new films and shows have to say about nuclear weapons? And what might be the lasting impact of this cultural moment?
Arms Control Assoc@ArmsControlNow

In "Beyond Oppenheimer: Nuclear Weapons in U.S. Popular Media," in this month's #ArmsControlToday, @LKenausis writes that nuclear armaments in cinematic culture are more a focus today than they have been in a generation. Read her feature story at ArmsControl.org/Today.

@ArnoldBogis @ArmsControlNow Very interesting! I hadn't heard about that, I'll have to check that episode out. Features in #ArmsControlToday are freed from paywall after one month, so consider checking back in early July if you're still interested 😊

@LKenausis @ArmsControlNow Sounds interesting! Unfortunately I don't have access,so ignore this random nugget if you already known. But if Doctor Who counts as part of U.S. popular culture since Disney bought it, an episode this season prominently included a nuclear threat.

THANK YOU @ZacharyOS and @IowaPublicRadio for this detailed coverage. This story is so disturbing. So much evidence that the #Davenport building collapse was forewarned, many times over... and its collapse with humans inside was ENTIRELY preventable.
Zachary Oren Smith@ZacharyOS

"CRACKED, CRUMBLING BRICKS" - Late yesterday, Davenport dropped a trove of docs related to the collapse of 324 Main St. I was up late combing through them. Here's what I learned: (1/15) iowapublicradio.org/ipr-news/2023-…

@CyleDickens @tstanger97 This is so strange. If it was a computer glitch, you would think releasing the original documents would clear that up and demonstrate that everything is above board…

This is one of the most chilling images I've ever seen. Why were people still in this building?!?!?

If you search Davenport public records today, it'll tell you that this building FAILED inspection on 5/25, 4 days before collapse: codext.davenportiowa.com/building_permi… If you searched the same exact record yesterday, it would have told you that it PASSED INSPECTION: web.archive.org/web/2023052914…

BREAKING: At least two bodies may be in the rubble of a partially collapsed apartment building in Davenport, Iowa, officials said. The announcement came a day after the city declared no one else was inside. bit.ly/45GadaP

Changing public records, denying FOIA requests... this does not look good!
Cyle Dickens@CyleDickens

@tstanger97 KWQC-TV6 has looked into this. The city claims a “computer glitch” caused this. TV6 FOIA requested the city for the original documents, that request has been denied by the city. Our team will continue to dig into this.

@MissChillyOne It's even worse -- if this is what it appears to be, the building *passed* inspection on 5/24, then last night (the day after the collapse), the online inspection record was changed to say that it actually failed that inspection on 5/24. Rewriting history

How can a building fail inspection one day, then, miraculously, pass inspection? These doesn't pass the smell test.
