The front page of tomorrow's @dailytarheel – I shed many tears while typing up these heart-wrenching text messages sent and received by UNC students yesterday. Our campus was on lockdown for more than three hours. Beyond proud of this cover and the team behind it.

You shouldn’t get shot for ringing the wrong doorbell. You shouldn’t get shot for entering the wrong driveway. And you shouldn’t get shot for getting in the wrong car. This is the country the gun industry has created. And too many Americans are shot because of it.

Today, April 4, is the birthday of Ana Grace Marquez-Greene. She should be 17 but died at 6 in the Sandy Hook attack. Ana never walked anywhere – as her dad said, “her mode of transportation was dance.” She also loved to sing and clearly had a gift at a young age.

Today, April 9, is the birthday of Leslie Geraldine Sherman. She would be 36 but died in the 2007 Va Tech attack. An honors student majoring in hx and intl relations, Leslie could excel while “do[ing] it all.” She loved photography, museums, reading, running, and traveling.

Today, Apr 8, is the birthday of Prof G. V. Loganathan. He would be 69 but died in the 2007 Va Tech attack. His students were a priority—they ❤️ him in return. Praise such as “kindest person I’ve ever met,” “incredibly wise & gentle,” & “best professor ever” are the norm.

@FlyFrontier where the email response time is SEVEN DAYS and their claim forms autocorrect to Priceline’s 1-877 number rather than your own cell number so you know your bag (and metaphorically, your trip) are ending up in an incinerator @USDOT @PeteButtigieg

@FlyFrontier where you pay extra to have the privilege of spending 2-3 hr/day with a chatbot looking for a list bag you paid extra for for THREE DAYS! Zero compensation and no one answers at baggage desks. @USDOT @PeteButtigieg

Southwest Airlines needs to do everything it takes to get stranded passengers to their destinations - and cover their expenses (like meals, hotel, ground transport) in the meantime. We’ll continue to hold them accountable with all tools available to USDOT.
