Why does somebody have to go “out the door?” Ostlund, Helenius and Kulich are exempt from waivers. Kulich hasn’t played in a hockey game in over a year. Send him to Rochester for 25 games to get up to speed and figure out the rest later.

@Kjag0819 Preseason is shorter. Camp practices are a trick eval point bc you have multiple groups and little opportunity to simulate game speed. I’d err on the side of caution. The question is how long you keep him down there. If he’s ready in 10 games, great. If not, be patient.

@scottreed901 We’ll see. Depends on whether they add someone else. You also want those guys playing a lot. If McLeod and Norris are healthy, how much ice time can you give Helenius and Ostlund at center? A bunch of factors go into the decision.

@OwenP29 All factors considered, I like how they’ve approached it. If you can add a veteran forward on a 1-year deal who makes sense, go for it. If not, plan to do something before the deadline.

@LLysowski Yup, I also wonder if keeping this depth could be savvy if some of these big moves don’t end up happening now. Having a stockpile of assets could be a verrrryyy nice luxury if more big names shake loose, which it kind of feels like is going to happen.

@TimHirschbeck Norris, Benson, Thompson, Doan, McLeod, Zucker, Krebs, Quinn, Malenstyn and Carrick. Those 10 are guaranteed. Who else should be written in pen? Probably just Ostlund. Kulich, Ostlund and Helenius are exempt from waivers. Danforth and Kozak aren’t guaranteed.

@LLysowski Agreed on not basing your plan on press conferences, but I think their actions reflect the same thing. To me the experience those three would gain with elevated roles is valuable moving forward. Kulich is the only of the three I’d be remotely interested in getting time in Roch.
