I think effective teachers are not driven by the standards; they’re driven by the needs of their kids. They understand the curriculum and they teach what is required but it’s always in the context of understanding where their students are, and what it takes to move them forward.

February can be a long month... and you have some colleagues who are barely hanging on. They’re just trying to keep their head above water. But you may not know which ones… so I recommend being gracious with all of them. And your students too.

It’s like nourishment... where the food is free and endless if we choose to share our joy - smile and be present. Feed them.

The in house PD my school provided today was AMAZING. It was informative, needed, and most importantly, tangible and useful in the work I do daily. Excited to implement some new practices. Thank you @hcscanton for valuing teachers and students!

Dear 1st Year Teachers, Congratulations! You’re half way through the most overwhelming year of your life. You may think about changing careers because I did, but don't do it. It’s never easy but it gets easier, and it’s worth it.

First day back to school, and I told myself this as I got up before the sun this morning: “You’re dreading going back to work, but there are 14 sweet kids who love you and can’t wait to see you. Show up with a smile.” And I did. It was a great day.
