@meikljea I’m certainly not done with education. I just knew with my family commitments I couldn’t be who our school community needed. I had 30 years in the retirement system, so it was the best decision for me. Take care and I hope you get clarity.

For the first time in decades, I’m not having that dream where I can’t get control of my class. I miss my people, but I don’t miss what stress did to my mental health. Retirement has given me what I didn’t realize I needed: room to breathe. Forever a teacher, just taking a breath

@flyingmonkey13 I'm starting at a new school/district tomorrow and it's the calmest I've ever been. Maybe I'm just setting myself up for heartbreak but there are only two new teachers to campus, including me. I think it's going to be a good year. 🙏🏼🤞🏼

I would like to reiterate this but to school leaders. There is so much good happening because of school staff. Take a moment to notice the good. Notice your staff. This job is not easy.

Teachers do not need to manufacture praise. They need to notice what is already there. For a student who receives frequent correction, feedback can slowly begin to feel like an identity. A specific, genuine compliment can interrupt that pattern and remind the student that adults also see their effort, kindness, courage, or progress. That does not mean lowering expectations or ignoring behavior. It means making sure correction is not the only message a student carries home. What is one strength you could name in a student today?
