Position by position: GK: Dale and Nemo are somewhat regulars, so not a big surprise. To me Dale is either the best or second best player in the whole age group at this point, regardless of position. Judy was called back quickly after the late developers camp, which means he likely impressed there. I like his potential a lot. I don’t know if this is the right level for him yet (there are a bunch of better 2010 GK prospects I can think of that deserve a chance ahead, realistically speaking), but he’s a bet on upside and a nearly 2011 date of birth. Not going to complain about his inclusion. DF: Welcome back to McCraney, who has missed a bunch of these camps in a row, but for me is easily the best 2010 RB and arguably its best fullback. Welcome for the first time to Akinmboni. Raw with a lot of upside. I don’t know if he’s a clear choice yet, but it’s well past due that he got an opportunity. Bond has electric pace. That’s probably where the positives end for me with this defensive group. MF: Diop is one of the best players in this age group for me (I’d probably put him 3 right now behind Dale/Niles). I felt like he hasn’t been used properly in past camps. He needs more license to go forward. He’s not a 6. He probably also just needs to play better, but he’s a pillar of this group. Castillo is provisionally tied to Dominican Republic. I don’t know how all of that will play out. It’s an interesting subplot, but a big 8 (will likely move to the 6) with a lot of skill on the ball. Kwon has a chance. Very smart, decently technical. Athleticism is a work in progress. Niles is neck and neck with Dale for the top player in this age group for me at the moment. It really is surprising to me he’s not called into almost every camp. FW: Avilez has had a good season. He’s earning his way into this group, even if I’d stop short of calling him a clear choice. Glad to see the Mexican youth international Ruffin getting an opportunity. Gbalajobi and Kraus were the duo during the CONCACAF U-15’s in the summer. Didn’t necessarily disagree too much. They just couldn’t score the goals we needed. Both deserve to be in this mix for call-ups, but yet to clearly distinguish themselves from the group of 9’s.

Owen Jorgensen (‘10) suffered an arm injury just 3 minutes into his first pro start and is being tended to at the hospital. Prayers up for a speedy recovery, Owen.

15-years-old and so thankful to get to be on the field with the big kids. I’m certainly his biggest fan. The heart. The passion. The humility. Get em, Ed!!!
