Sri Lanka has introduced its first Automated Border Control (ABC) e-gate system at Bandaranaike International Airport, marking a key milestone in modernising border management and improving passenger convenience. The system was launched under a Japan-funded, USD 8.4 million project implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to strengthen border control, health security and pandemic preparedness.
The project supports Sri Lanka’s digital transformation and compliance with International Health Regulations, while providing advanced screening, biometric access controls and upgraded facilities. Officials said the new e-gates will enhance security, efficiency and resilience at ports of entry, while enabling faster immigration clearance and reduced waiting times for passengers.

"Many people make big life decisions
without fully understanding their financial position.
Not because they don’t care.
But because awareness often comes too late.
I’ve seen this in Sri Lanka.
I see it every day in New Zealand too.
When you don’t plan your finances early — especially your retirement —
you don’t feel the impact today.
You feel it later, when options become limited.
Something as simple as choosing the right KiwiSaver fund
or reviewing where your money is invested
can quietly shape the quality of your future.
Small decisions made today
decide whether you struggle later
or live with confidence — for yourself and your family.
And the best time to understand your money is before life forces the lesson."

Sri Lanka Customs recorded strong revenue performance at the start of 2026, collecting Rs.106.6 billion within the first 13 days of January, exceeding 66% of the monthly target. Improved container clearance following Cyclone Ditwah disruptions and higher import volumes contributed to the increase.
In 2025, Customs achieved a record Rs.2,551 billion in revenue, surpassing its annual target by a wide margin. However, the 2026 revenue target has been reduced to Rs.2,207 billion, as authorities expect a decline in vehicle imports.
