I don't understand how it took 4 years for Sean Mnangagwa to be promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, while Minnie Baloyi had to spend 20 years to reach the same rank of Colonel. Some spend decades in the barracks climbing the ladder, while others seem to have a VIP elevator.

WATCH | The young man who created an artwork resembling Wicknell Chivayo, and later claimed he spent US$10,000 to produce it, has apologised for some of the remarks he made during a recent interview. Reports suggest that he became aware that Chivayo was unhappy with his comments, prompting him to issue a public apology in an attempt to smooth things over. In addition to the apology, the young man also went a step further and directly asked Chivayo to gift him a car.

Chelsea can still secure European football next season without a top-5 finish. The London club have reached the Emirates FA Cup Final against Manchester City on 16 May. Per FA/UEFA rules, the FA Cup winners automatically qualify for the UEFA Europa League league phase in 2026/27....even if they finish outside the Premier League's European spots. Beating Manchester City would hand Chelsea that European ticket directly. 💙

🚨 A referee should never EVER be influenced by the crowd or a manager, it’s an absolute, absolute disgrace how this can happen in the Semi Finals of the Champions League. Absolutely embarrassing at this level that he can’t hold his nerve because Simeone and the Atleti crowd are giving it to when in no world it was a clear and obvious error to give #Arsenal a penalty for the foul on Eze ❌ I cannot wait for them to come to the Emirates.

The English FA has just banned Mudryk for 4 years. Chelsea are now back in the same place they were 20 years ago when one of their players tested positive for cocaine. Keep reading to find out how they handled it and what this decision may mean for Mudryk. Adrian Mutu tested positive for cocaine at Chelsea in 2004. Chelsea terminated his contract, took him to FIFA, and were awarded €17.1 million in compensation after five years of legal proceedings. That case is now the most relevant precedent in world football for what happens next with Mudryk. A positive drugs test is not just a sporting ban. It is a legal trigger that can determine contract validity, compensation liability and financial recovery. Twenty years later the lesson is being taught again. The FA confirmed Mykhailo Mudryk's four-year ban today, April 29 2026, under Regulations 3 and 4 of the FA's Anti-Doping Regulations. He tested positive for meldonium, a substance normally used to treat heart conditions but capable of boosting endurance and recovery for athletes, while on international duty with Ukraine in November 2024. He has not played a competitive game since. The 16 months Mudryk has already served could count towards the ban, which would significantly reduce the effective remaining suspension. If reduced on appeal to 18 months as Pogba's was, and backdated to December 2024, Mudryk could return as early as June 2026. But the sporting consequence is only part of the story. When Mutu tested positive in 2004, Chelsea terminated his contract and filed a compensation claim on the basis that his positive test constituted a breach of contract without just cause. CAS ultimately ordered Mutu to pay Chelsea €17.1 million after five years of appeals through FIFA, CAS, the Swiss Federal Court and the European Court of Human Rights. He lost every single one. Chelsea paid £88.5 million for Mudryk. He has a contract until 2031. Chelsea have already updated his deal following the suspension, though the exact amendments remain undisclosed. They have since signed Garnacho and Gittens, which points to the cold reality of the situation regardless of how the legal process concludes. Mudryk hired the same law firm as Pogba to fight his case. That firm secured a reduction from four years to eighteen months for Pogba. The same argument is now being built for Mudryk at CAS. The ban is confirmed and the appeal is live. But the precedent is established. Chelsea know exactly what this process looks like. The question is which version of the Mutu playbook they choose to follow. My name is Ajoje. I am a FIFA Licensed Agent and International Sports Lawyer. @israel_ajoje So are there high chances for CAS to stick to the stare decisis and consider the mitigation by reducing the ban to 18 months?

🗣️ @SkyKaveh: “To be fair to them [Chelsea], they have tried to sign older, more experienced players before. For instance, they were exploring the possibility of signing Virgil van Dijk from Liverpool before he signed his new contract. I think Mo Salah was a possibility as well before he signed his new Liverpool contract. So they haven’t just been focusing on signing 20-year-old players.” ~ @SkySportsNews

UEFA expanded the Champions League from 6 group games to a league phase of 8 games this season, with playoffs added on top. But the yellow card suspension threshold stayed exactly the same. If you get three yellow card bookings, you miss a game. Vincent Kompany is now suspended for the semi-final first leg in Paris tomorrow because of it. He has already said publicly the rule needs to change. I think he is right. Kompany was booked for dissent after Mbappe's goal in the quarter-final win over Real Madrid, which came while Bayern defender Josip Stanisic lay injured after a challenge referee Slavko Vincic chose to ignore. It was his third yellow of this season's UCL. Under Article 63.02 of the UEFA Champions League Regulations, players and team officials are automatically suspended for the next match after accumulating three yellow cards that did not result in a red card. Here is why I think the rule needs to change. Under the old format, yellow cards reset after the group stage, giving players a clean slate after 6 games. Under the new format, yellows only expire after the quarter-finals, meaning players and coaches must manage their bookings across up to 14 games before any reset. The threshold is the same but the risk of exposure is more than double(6-14). Kompany said it plainly: "There are more games now but you still get suspended after three cards. I think this rule is a bit aggressive. I'd think about it again for next year." His assistant, Aaron Danks will manage the touchline in Paris. Kompany will be barred from the dressing room and the bench. He can return for the second leg in Munich. The competition has changed but the rule has not. UEFA has a lot of time to make adjustments though. My name is Ajoje. I am a FIFA Licensed Agent and International Sports Lawyer. I write on the Law and Business of Football, a lot. The Touchline | 𝐓@TouchlineX

🚨 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗡: Vincent Kompany’s suspension for the match against PSG tomorrow will play out as follows: • Kompany will still travel with the squad to the stadium, arriving by team bus roughly 90 minutes before kickoff. • Once the bus arrives, he must immediately separate from the players and is not permitted to enter the dressing room. • He can take part in media duties, provided he does not have any contact with the team. • During the game, he will watch from a private box, where a UEFA official will be present to ensure the suspension rules are followed. • Any form of communication via mobile phone is strictly forbidden, a regulation UEFA has enforced firmly in past cases. Kompany is said to be very frustrated with the ban, as he is known for carefully preparing every detail of matches. Although he has full confidence in his coaching staff, he still wants to be as involved as possible to make sure everything goes according to plan despite the suspension. — @BILD

Let me tell you why Man United has been playing many games on Mondays. First thing you need to know is that, premier league fixtures are majorly arranged by the broadcasters, mainly SKY and TNT. These broadcasters pay the premier league close to £2bn per year for TV rights, hence, you would agree that they should have a big say in the timing of games, due to broadcasting. SKY holds major share in these as they show a minimum of 215 matches. TNT show about 52 matches, especially Saturday early kick offs. They schedule the most marketable games in the best TV windows. For example, Man United on a Monday = reliable big numbers, data has shown that Monday night games generate lots of views, coupled with Monday Night Football. When these schedules are made, they consider lots of things. This season for instance, 9 premier league clubs played in Europe. If you’re playing in Europe mid week, they try to give you priority. You can’t play on Thursday in the Conference League like Palace and still play on Saturday in the premier league. Also, you can’t play on Sunday like Arsenal, and still play on Tuesday in the Champions league because of fixture congestion and the players also have to recover. Clubs participating in Europe are given some level of priority. You see clubs like Man United that have no business in Europe, they are the ones that are being thrown around for Friday and Monday night kick offs😅 Remember, SKY has to also make money, and Man United is the next best thing that’ll generate money for them, in fact, without Europe, Man United are arguably the biggest, so they put them on Mondays. I think it’s the 6th or 7th time Man United is playing on Monday this season. Monday is like prime time, because it’s a standalone game. Lots of people will watch. Other prime times are like 4:30pm on Sunday, if you guys notice, it’s usually the top matches that are shown at this time. The side effect of this is that the fans are the ones who’ll suffer. Imagine going to work on Monday, you close from work in Manchester and start traveling for an away game in Newcastle😭, it’s stressful. On the other hand, Man United fans have been lucky, most of these Monday or Friday games have been at home (Old Trafford). Many premier league clubs can compete because of the money made from these TV rights, Premier League also share this money equally among the teams which is commendable, that’s why Sunderland, a newly-promoted team can spend £200m in one transfer window. It’s not the same in other leagues, the big clubs take the chunk of the money, that’s why others can’t really compete. I hope you understand how this works and I hope few people learn one or two things.
