South Florida beaches have had numerous water rescues over the last few days from deadly rip currents. Just in Fort Lauderdale alone, 54 people were rescued on Friday, 34 on Saturday and 20 on Sunday. One man died last night in Pompano Beach after he was pulled out unconscious.

As Coral Springs’ first Black female and Haitian American Commissioner, she carried with her not only a deep sense of purpose, but a powerful commitment to uplifting her community and advancing a more resilient, inclusive future for our region. Her work in climate resiliency, her advocacy for diverse communities, along her 1,000-watt smile and unwavering kindness spoke to a young woman whose future was filled with promise. On behalf of the City of Fort Lauderdale, we extend our deepest condolences to the City of Coral Springs, to Nancy’s colleagues, friends, and loved ones, and to all who were touched by her life and leadership.
