@NJSimmondsbooks I menu planned for the holiday week - 6 family staying in our house with various and sundry coming in and out. I live in Alabama. $600 at Walmart last weekend. No meat (I buy that directly from a farmer)

It's 7.30am on 23rd Dec and I'm off to Tesco for the 'big shop'. This is only for the most experienced of soldiers, so I'm taking my eldest. She's been briefed, we've been in training all year. This is not for the weak. This is for the love of Christmas. See you on the other side

It's almost that time of year when my wife sits next to me on the sofa and glances at me like I'm a piece of shit. Because of what Alan Rickman did to Emma Thompson in a fictional film, released over 20 years ago.

@ThePosieParker You have Martha’s rule for a second opinion or treatment option if you think that there is something being missed. The details should be posted in your hospital.

In the continuation of our NHS journey. We are in a scummy urgent care room with two sets of police watching over a couple of people, one with tags, one lying on the floor. She’s on a drip sat in a chair. I had to fight to get the painful cannula replaced, apparently it is okay to be actively painful like a big screw being jabbed into one’s arm. The second is much better. Nothing says healing like sitting upright in a crowded brightly lit room in pain. This is mental.

@ThePosieParker Two words - Martha’s rule I know you said your experience wasn’t the greatest - you have the right to a second opinion or for another physician to assess the situation. It should be posted in the hospital.

Well, it was more serious than we realised or were told, she has sepsis.
Kellie-Jay Keen@ThePosieParker

After spending the night in hospital with my daughter, who is very unwell but not life threatening, I don’t want to hear another word about how great the nhs is. The nurses have not looked after her at all. Loud unnecessary conversations throughout the night, lazy can’t be arsed attitudes, no explanation of what’s happening, at all, no desire to offer reassurance or comfort, not one question about whether she wants to sit up or lie down. We are being made to feel like everything is too much and we should be grateful for less than the absolute minimum. She asked for more pain killers, as it’s been six hours. “We will come at six, as it must be six hours unless you’re in pain” (it can actually be four) we explained the doctor says to make it regular, she’s also had morphine and that she is in a lot of pain. “If you dont wait until six the next lot will be hours and hours and hours” I ask what time the last lot was as we think it’s been a really long time. “11:13, so she can wait until six, unless she’s in pain” I say that that’s six hours ago. “Yes so at six we will come round” I have to say “no, at six it’ll be nearly seven hours, she’s in pain now, please can you go and get the pain relief now” She goes. When she returns, rather than coming round to the side of her bed to give a patient medicine, on a drip, she leans from the bottom of the bed and motions for my daughter to get up and take it from her. I have to remind the nurse that she’s in hospital because she’s unwell and in agony. “Oh I didn’t know, I’m new to this ward” this ward is uneventful, nothing is happening. She must have read my daughter’s chart to give her the tablets. What sort of nurse gives tablets from the bottom of a bed?!?! Imagine I wasn’t here? How many patients would have felt despite the pain they should take it from her? Imagine my daughter was a frail or vulnerable patient? The entire experience has been god awful. The hospital is very empty, with wards full lit with no patients in them. It’s utterly utterly shit.

@CamillaTominey I am sorry your game was interrupted. If you had posted something like this about me I would be totally devastated and embarrassed that I had potentially spoiled the game for someone. To be called out for my behaviour would be mortifying. Am I the only person who feels this?

@Joeinblack Does this also apply to the Italian door keepers who hand out shawls at the doors of each of the tourist attractions? My daughter (a catholic) wore her best outfit to church in Assisi only to be handed a large scarf to cover herself - she was mortified.

I say this sincerely: in regard to the dress at Mass discussion, you need to mind your own business. If you can’t grasp this basic tenant of Christianity and human behavior, then you have much bigger issues than someone dressing inappropriately at mass. Everyone gets irritated by sins or problems that other people have. Focusing on them is a distraction from the devil. You can dress it up in pious talk all you want, but you’re wrong.

This is Dr David Mackereth, a medical doctor with 30 years experience in A&E He was sacked by the DWP, as a medical health assessor, because he refused to address a man as ‘she’ as it went against logic, ethics and his Christian faith. He took the DWP to an employment tribunal, which he lost. They stated his conduct was “incompatible with human dignity” (2019) He appealed in 2022 and lost again. This is one of hundreds of cases that will now need re-visiting after the Supreme Court ruling. We are screaming out for brilliant doctors and they sack them for not bending to compelled speech. He is a beyond eloquent, dedicated and courageous in his fight against the cult. Thank you Dr Mackereth 👏🏼

@OfficerofEngin1 @VeteranIrish There are many jobs in the world that should require the applicant to be or have been a “sapper captain” - it should be a universal pre-requisite (some would say a ubique pre-requisite). The world would become a better place almost immediately - love a former sapper captain.

@Miss_Snuffy My little girl-now 20 and at uni-joined her friend in a solidarity run away from home & went to live with her on the trampoline. They put posters up & everything. Her mom and I had a cup of tea while we watched them. When it went dark they realised they didn’t like being outside.
