@Puringms @NASA All of the Apollo equipment was designed to handle extreme temperatures, so it wasn’t necessary to cool the rocks first. A thermometer deployed at the #Apollo11 site showed the daytime temperature reached 160° F, dipping to 120° F in shadow. bit.ly/2LvFRSx

Okay. Hit me with your lunar questions. Use #Apollo50th to ask my scientists any Moon questions you have! And join @NASA live at 1 PM ET for go.nasa.gov/2LvYXYH

@TheRealMoogy @NASA Once technological advances allow the ability to use He-3 for nuclear fusion, with a net gain of energy, scientists and engineers may be able to mine He-3 on the Moon in an economically feasible way. Scientists estimated that there are over 1M metric tons of He-3 on the Moon.

@ChaseBrooks13 @NASA It’s likely the ascent stage formed this type of crater, but at that time we didn’t have the surveillance to find it. And at this point, finding this small crater on the pockmarked Moon is like finding a needle in a haystack. (2/2)

@ChaseBrooks13 @NASA In my 10 years at the Moon, I've taken continuous high-res imagery of the lunar surface, which has enabled me to detect over 500 new craters, the largest being ~70 meters in diameter. (1/2)

Traveling back in time to 2009. The Black Eyed Peas were rocking the charts. Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th U.S. President. And there was so much we still didn’t know about the Moon. #LRO10th
Love hearing your memories of 2009!
