@BallBoy305 @nolanminessale_ I really thought Minnesale may have returned too. Sad that leagues like the SL have 0 shot at returning their top guys with all of the money these days…especially the tommies as they have plenty of NIL. With that said, I like SDSU next season as they have plenty of names I know!

@Marghareti72 I think it is telling that he couldn’t even make the all MAC 3rd team despite being his team’s clear number one option and scoring a lot (which is often the only criteria for honors like that). I honestly think that Sabol is the better player between the 2 for Buffalo.

Don't love when a guy's highlights have him picking up his dribble in weird places a lot, but he's been on my list since Feb and the fit makes some sense. Always hard to anticipate defensive ability in a transfer, but UW doesn't usually interest themselves in Gs who can't defend
Rising Ballers Network@dylan_lutey

Buffalo guard Daniel Freitag (@DanielFreitag_) has heard from the following he tells me: Ole Miss Creighton Cal GCU Washington Penn State High Point Portland Oregon St After transferring from Wisconsin the 6-2 guard had a monster year averaging 19.8 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 3.8 APG, 1.3 SPG, 41/36/83 splits.

@franfraschilla Great point - a lot of the top portal players didn’t impact team success much last season. Apart from Michigan, most teams with flashy transfer classes didn’t do all that much last season like Indiana, USC, Creighton, Washington, Kentucky, K-State etc.

I worry that even schools with big money will sign guys who will impress their big donor boosters in May, June, July, and August but don’t contribute to winning in February and March. 4 million for a marginal NBA PG prospect. Are you that stupid?

@JaysPropaganda Good player but I don’t know how well he fits what Creighton looks to do on offense. He has the ball in his hands a lot and he’s always putting it on the floor too. I think it’s telling that UNO was not noticeably better once Djobet became eligible after the new year.

@JBRBracketology Agreed - it is very out of left field. If they would’ve gone with any NBA coach I would’ve guessed Billy Donovan

WOW. That's a stunning hire for North Carolina. Malone hasn't worked in college basketball since he was an assistant at Manhattan University in 2001. Has never worked at UNC and has no prior relationship with the school nor the ACC. He has never been a head coach in College Basketball either. It *could* work, just very surprised this is the route UNC took given their last two hires were Roy Williams and Hubert Davis.
Pete Thamel@PeteThamel

Sources: North Carolina intends to hire longtime NBA coach Michael Malone as the school’s next basketball coach. He’s an NBA Championship coach with the Denver Nuggets from the 2022-23 season and has won 510 games as an NBA head coach.

@GoBlueHasbulla It’s probably more likely that Michigan didn’t do much scouting for the game and just used it as an opportunity to see how the players would respond in an actual game-like setting as a lot of teams do little to no preparation for exhibitions (like IA State or Purdue)

@madeformarch UNC typically schedules higher caliber teams in buy games too although it wasn’t exactly the case this year apart from Navy and ETSU. They pretty consistently play solid Carolina programs in Charleston, UNCW, and Wofford. Also one of a few P5s willing to go play mids on the road

The driver of interest in March Madness are the mid-major programs like High Point, Miami (OH), St. Louis, Prairie View A&M, VCU, McNeese, Siena, South Florida, and others. These teams make the tournament special.. they maximize their talent, they play together, have elite chemistry, and they show that toughness and execution can level the playing field against programs with 5–15x the resources, recruiting budgets, and NIL/revenue share money. The mid-majors, their stories and their upsets drive viewership and revenue. They are the reason for the early round interest in the tournament. Why is High Point Coach Flynn Clayman and many others frustrated? It is because the system and selection process treats elite mid-majors like second-class citizens. It should be noted that no one wants to flood the field with potential Cinderellas and dilute the tournament. However, there’s a clear case for a handful more deserving mid-majors earning at-large spots each year. As it stands today, the metrics and criteria create almost no realistic path for 99% of non-power programs unless they win their conference tournament outright. There are mid-major leagues that are strong enough on a given year that their second-best team (or their best team who gets upset in their conference tournament) would win games if they were in the field. How do we get them in the NCAA tournament in the future?

@T3Bracketology There were no shortage of Friday night games of theirs on ESPN2/U or CBS Sports Network! Beyond the record it is a very fun team to watch on offense…so many good shooters.

@franfraschilla @Cuse_MBB @BIGEASTMBB @DukeMBB Sad that things have changed so much in the sport that a historic program like Syracuse struggles to compete…it has been close to 8 years since they have been in the top 25, which is crazy to say about a program that was consistently a top 4 seed in the tourney for 30 years.

@Cuse_MBB (and the @BIGEASTMBB), for that matter, will never be the same. It was a golden era of college basketball. But if you have a coach who builds a top 15 team there, don’t tell me there won’t be 30,000 fans in the Dome on a Saturday night when @DukeMBB comes to town. They have to think big. @theACC

@madeformarch Georgetown needs to get back to being a consistent tournament team if the perception of the BE wants to improve. If every program is at their best GT is at worst the 3rd best program in the league. Crazy they don’t have an at-large appearance since 2015.

I love the Big East. Grew up on it. One of my alma maters is in it. This is an AWFUL take. There was no Big East bias here. Hall’s resume wasn’t good enough. SJU whiffed on its non-con & suffered from a down league. League simply needs to get better and win more OOC games.
Adam Zagoria@AdamZagoria

The anti-Big East bias here is pretty awful --NCAA says St. John's tourney title mattered less than Purdue's --UConn & St. John's in the same region. St. John's gets shipped to San Diego, then would have to come back to DC --Seton Hall left out and opts to shut it down

A historical NCAA Tournament trend I’ve never seen anyone talk about: Double-digit seeds from power conferences have significantly outperformed double-digit mid-majors

Best argument for Auburn: if they had played three cupcakes instead of Michigan, Arizona, and Houston, they’d be 20-13 and a stone cold lock. Do we want good noncon games or not?

@lenniesmalls00 @NCAABuzzerBters I genuinely like Saint Thomas, but at the same time they like selling any contact as sure-thing fouls. That, in addition to the fact that they do not view the summit as a long-term option, makes them difficult to like…give me the Dakota schools all day!
