Our commitment to excellence extends far beyond the streets of our community. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Office of Public Information is honored to receive a 2026 Regional Emmy Award from the Pacific Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) in the Crime/Justice category for our 2025 Best of the Badge presentation. Each year at Best of the Badge, we have the privilege of telling the extraordinary stories of courage, sacrifice, and service displayed by our officers. By carefully weaving together body-worn camera footage, Air Support video, drone footage, surveillance video, 911 calls, radio traffic, and the heartfelt words of the officers who lived these moments, we strive to honor the people behind the badge and the communities they serve. This award recognizes outstanding achievement in storytelling, but more importantly, it recognizes the remarkable men and women of LVMPD whose actions inspire these stories. We are grateful to the Pacific Southwest Chapter of NATAS for this recognition and remain committed to pursuing excellence in everything we do—both in protecting our community and in sharing the stories that deserve to be remembered. Congratulations to everyone who helped bring this production to life.

We were honored to welcome Senator Rosen and Senator Cortez Masto to LVMPD Air Support to highlight how federal funding is strengthening our ability to serve Southern Nevada. This funding allows Air Support to be equipped with an additional rescue hoist, upgraded searchlights, and a spare helicopter engine, which are critical resources that help us respond faster, enhance nighttime operations, and remain mission-ready when every second counts. As the primary search and rescue resource for Clark County, these assets ensure we're prepared to answer the call, whether it's a rescue mission, a major incident, or daily patrol support.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our K-9s, Leico, who died yesterday after suffering complications from a seizure. Leico was 10 years old Belgian Malinois and faithfully served alongside his handler, Officer Sam Carrillo, for the past eight years. Throughout his career, the team assisted Patrol, SWAT, Major Violators, and numerous other specialized units in locating and apprehending dangerous suspects. Together, they were responsible for 93 finds and 9 apprehensions. Leico’s dedication, courage, and relentless work ethic made him an invaluable member of our department. Beyond his service, Leico was full of energy, had a social personality, and quickly became a favorite wherever he went. He proudly represented our K-9 Unit by participating in demonstrations for fellow officers, local schools, and the Hispanic Citizens Academy, where he helped strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the community we serve. One of Leico’s favorite stops was Dispatch, where he never passed up the opportunity to visit and soak up all the love and attention from the dispatchers who adored him. Whether working alongside fellow officers or engaging with members of our community, Leico left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His loyalty, enthusiasm, and larger-than-life personality created countless memories that will never be forgotten. Leico’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the officers he served beside, and the community he helped protect. He will be deeply missed by his handler, Officer Carrillo, our K-9 Unit, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. We are sincerely grateful for the overwhelming support, kind words, and condolences from everyone who has reached out during this difficult time, as well as those who continue to keep Leico and Officer Carrillo in their thoughts. Rest easy, Leico. Thank you for your faithful service, steadfast loyalty, and the sacrifices you made to keep others safe. Your watch has ended, but your legacy will never be forgotten.

NEVER FORGOTTEN On November 8, 1987, 28-year-old Marina Andree Vidal was enjoying a night out in Laughlin. She was last seen around 3:00 a.m. dancing with two unidentified men inside the Losers Lounge at the Riverside Hotel and Casino. She never made it home. Four days later, Marina's body was discovered in a remote desert area west of Needles Highway. The Clark County Coroner's Office determined she died from blunt force trauma to her head, chest, and neck. Nearly 40 years have passed, but investigators believe someone may still hold the key to solving this case. A memory. A conversation. A detail that once seemed insignificant could help bring answers to Marina's family and justice to those responsible. If you have any information about the murder of Marina Andree Vidal, please contact the LVMPD Homicide Section at (702) 828-3521. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555 or submit a tip online.

Happy Independence Day from all of us at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department! As we come together to celebrate, we want to remind everyone to stay safe. Drive sober, stay alert, and buckle up. When it comes to fireworks, leave it to the pros. Illegal fireworks are dangerous and can cause serious injury or fires. Have a fun, safe, and responsible 4th of July! 🎇

LVMPD has confiscated more than 10 tons of illegal fireworks this year. As Southern Nevada prepares to celebrate Independence Day and the 250th anniversary of American independence, we are reminding everyone to celebrate responsibly and make safety a priority this holiday weekend. Thousands of residents and visitors are expected to attend events throughout the valley, including First Friday, celebrations on the Las Vegas Strip, and community festivities across Clark County. LVMPD has comprehensive operational plans in place and will have an increased law enforcement presence throughout the weekend to help keep everyone safe. One of the biggest public safety concerns remains illegal fireworks. This year alone, LVMPD has seized more than 20,000 pounds of illegal fireworks. A reminder from LVMPD, @LasVegasFD and @ClarkCountyFD: • Only "Safe-N-Sane" fireworks purchased from authorized Clark County retailers are legal for personal use. • If a firework leaves the ground, explodes in the air, or was purchased outside Clark County, it is likely illegal. • To report illegal fireworks, call 311, or 702-828-3111. Only call 911 if there is an emergency involving a fire, injury, or an immediate threat to life or property. Parents and guardians should also be aware that juvenile curfew laws remain in effect during summer break. On the Las Vegas Strip and around the Fremont Street Experience, anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. LVMPD officers will also conduct a DUI enforcement blitz throughout the holiday weekend. If you plan to drink, make a plan before you go. Use a designated driver, rideshare, or taxi. Every decision matters. Illegal fireworks, impaired driving, and reckless behavior can have life-changing consequences. Together, we can help ensure everyone enjoys a safe and memorable Independence Day weekend. We wish everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July!
