Commendation Ceremony/March 18, 2026
It’s a proud day for the men and women of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, as we honor employees for outstanding service.
During a commendation ceremony at LVMPD Headquarters 47 people were recognized, including employees with our partner agency, ATF.
Among those honored were the first two officers on the scene of a double homicide on the Las Vegas Strip last summer, whose quick actions helped identify a suspect.
We also celebrated officers who saved the life of an unconscious inmate at the Clark County Detention Center, detectives involved in curbing gang violence during the summer of 2025, and much more.
Thank you to all our officers for their dedication and commitment, and for injecting humanity into policing!

🍀 ST. PATRICK’S DAY DUI BLITZ🍀
While many were celebrating responsibly, our officers were out working to keep our roads safe across the valley.
During our blitz:
🚓 285 citations issued
🚔 5 DUI arrests
🔒 6 additional arrests
🚗 15 vehicles towed
A little luck won’t protect you from the consequences of impaired driving. If you’re celebrating, make the smart choice before you go out. Designate a sober driver or grab a rideshare.
Because when it comes to DUI, luck isn’t on your side.

End of Watch: Corrections Officer James W. Harbin II
March 18, 1979
Today, we remember Corrections Officer James Walter Harbin II, who joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on February 17, 1979. Just one month later, on March 18, 1979, he was tragically shot and killed after stopping at a convenience store on his way to work. The clerk attempted to warn him of an armed robbery in progress, but because his uniform closely resembled that of a police officer, the suspect mistook him for law enforcement and opened fire.
Harbin was only 22 years old. His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

TRAFFIC FATALITY REPORT!
This week, four more lives were lost on our roadways. Behind every number is a person who is loved, valued, and deeply missed. Far too many of these tragedies could be avoided. Speeding, impairment, and even a brief moment of inattention can change lives forever.
Please drive responsibly, stay alert, and make choices that keep everyone safe!

🐾 National K9 Veterans Day 🐾
Today, the LVMPD proudly honors our K9s who serve and have served alongside our officers with loyalty and courage. These incredible partners have helped track suspects, locate missing persons, detect dangerous substances, and protect our community, often putting themselves in harm’s way.
We’re grateful for every K9 who has worn the badge and for the handlers who stand beside them. Thank you to our four-legged heroes, past and present.

DRONE SUCCESS STORY!
LVMPD officers responded to a report of a battery near Las Vegas and Elvis Presley Boulevards. As officers headed to the area, a drone was quickly deployed and located the suspect from above.
Even after the suspect attempted to discard his shirt to avoid identification, the drone maintained visual contact and guided officers directly to his location, leading to a quick and safe apprehension.
A clear example of how technology is helping officers respond faster and more effectively.

🍀 St. Patrick’s Day Crosswalk Enforcement 🍀
Today, multiple law enforcement agencies teamed up at East Charleston Boulevard and Burnham Avenue for a special St. Patrick’s Day crosswalk enforcement event focused on pedestrian safety.
To grab drivers’ attention, one of our officers even dressed as a leprechaun and used the crosswalk while officers monitored traffic nearby. Drivers who failed to yield to a pedestrian or were traveling at unsafe speeds were stopped and cited.
While the leprechaun brought some holiday spirit, the message is serious: pedestrian safety matters.
Nevada law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians in marked crosswalks. Slowing down and paying attention can prevent crashes and save lives.
Thank you to our regional partners who helped make this safety operation possible:
🚓 Henderson Police Department

🚓 @CCSDPD
🚓 @UPDSouth

Together, we’re working to keep our roads safe for everyone whether you’re driving, biking, or walking.
Please remember:
👀 Watch for pedestrians
🚗 Slow down near crosswalks
✋ Yield when required
Because the luck of the Irish shouldn’t be the only thing keeping pedestrians safe. 🍀

The Night of Power
We were honored to host Laylat Al Qadr, the Night of Power, at LVMPD Headquarters, bringing together members of our Muslim and interfaith communities for a meaningful evening during Ramadan. Captain Esparza and the OCE team welcomed guests for a wonderful dinner as we gathered to break our fast together.
Moments like this send a powerful message. LVMPD remains committed to serving, protecting, and supporting every member of our diverse community. What began years ago this event has grown into a meaningful tradition one that reflects connection, respect, and mutual understanding.
We extend our sincere thanks to the faith leaders and community members who joined us and helped make this evening truly special.
