Four trade unions just showed a million women exactly where they stand, and it isn't beside them. In 1874, Emma Paterson founded the Women's Trade Union League because the unions of her day wouldn't organise women. Women built their own room. That room became Labour's Women's Conference. Now #UNISON, #ASLEF, #USDAW and the Musicians' Union are boycotting it. Not Labour's main conference, just the one room built for women. They'll turn up in every other hall this September. Only the women's room gets the empty chairs. This isn't the first time. When #Darlingtonnurses fought for the right to change in private, away from a male colleague, UNISON's own president accused the health secretary of "pandering to anti-trans bigotry" for meeting them. When the nurses won, UNISON's statement didn't mention them once. The seats these unions are giving up were never theirs. They belong to the female cleaners, care workers and nurses whose subscriptions paid for them. A union that empties a woman's seat to make a point has forgotten who it works for. UNISON alone gave Labour close to £1.5 million before the last election. Money like that buys a hearing. It seems it also buys silence, when the people asking to be heard are women. People are free to do as they wish within the law but I think we can all agree this should not be receiving public funds. This government really needs to get control of this issue because I fear Scotland is going down a worrying path when it comes to women’s health.

1. It is false to claim that materialist/radical feminist critiques of trans ideology are 'the same view' as is held by Elon Musk, Donald Trump, or the far right. The feminist critique and the gender conservative critque are *not the same view.*

"Labour Women’s Declaration, a rare voice of sanity in Andy Burnham’s circus, condemned the boycott as a ‘disappointing and petulant act of performative politics’. The organisation accused union barons of ‘demonstrating how out of touch’ they are, adding: ‘We hope union leaders will reconsider their decision and engage in the constructive dialogue that their members have every right to expect from their representatives.’" spectator.com/article/trade-…

"Labour Women’s Declaration criticised the boycott & said: “The decision by some unions not to attend is a disappointing and petulant act of performative politics, demonstrating how out of touch some union leaders are with the women members they are elected to represent... Minister Bridget Phillipson’s recently stated priorities for action – VAWG, equal pay and child poverty – accurately demonstrate the seriousness of the challenges facing women today. We hope union leaders will reconsider their decision and engage in the constructive dialogue that their members have every right to expect from their representatives.” labourlist.org/2026/07/union-…

@cwknews @HJoyceGender Alison Morris is like a toddler throwing a tantrum. She won't listen, she spouts repetitive slogans, and she refuses to acknowledge when it's pointed out to her that she's wrong (e.g about JKR's funding). Helen was calm and articulate despite her interlocutor's awful behaviour.

"Where's the falsehoods?... Nobody wrote falsehoods." Said with the repetitive insistence of an intransigent toddler, literally straight after her false assertion that JKR is funding WRN's challenge had been pointed out to her. Well done, Helen - articulate as ever.
Helen Joyce@HJoyceGender

This is the angriest I have ever allowed myself to get in a public appearance. The falsehoods, question-begging, arrogance, ignorance and sheer dumbness - not to mention the constant talking over - were INFURIATING. Enjoy! x.com/SexMattersOrg/…

Perhaps the worst thing Alison said was that she didn't need to check facts with WRN NI because "it was a column". When I was commissioning columnists at The Economist, if any one had suggested that because it was a column they could make stuff up, I'd never have accepted a file from them again.
Francis Harris@fharris2011

A delight as @HJoyceGender dismantles the awful @AllisonMorris1, who disgracefully hides behind her journalist status to malign women on behalf of trans extremists Worth a listen. It's an education in the art of smearing and distortion bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

Ms Budge said: "For nearly 60 years now the law has been quite clear that separate toilets for boys and girls are required, so it's not surprising that the courts are repeatedly upholding this for obvious reasons of privacy, dignity and safety.
The Herald@heraldscotland

EXCLUSIVE More than 100 schools across 14 Scottish local authorities still have some form of mixed-sex toilet provision for pupils, nearly a year after the Scottish Government told schools they must provide separate facilities for boys and girls 👇

We have accepted Amnesty's offer to meet "in September or October". In the meantime we hope they will be clear about their position. The issue is not just one withdrawn report but a track record of getting the law wrong and painting thse who express gender critical beliefs as "transphobes" who have "no place in society".
