@MartinSLewis Same madness as Tax-Free Childcare and 30 Free Hours. If one parent earns £100k and the other earns nothing, children don't qualify. But if parents earn £99,999 each - a combined £199,999 - they qualify. Remember that full time nursery in London is £20k+ a year.

I was just asked "I've recently received a high income benefit child benefit charge. I earn £53k my wife £12.5k. Yet I've read if we both earned £49k, we wouldn't have received the charge . How is that fair?" That's correct. Sadly the answer is simple. It isn't fair.

@MartinSLewis It isn’t fair, particularly on single parents. A friend of mine cannot progress until her kids are over 18. Why don’t they review benefit/childcare cap thresholds with inflation?!

Bitter irony is that I deliver the training that stresses how this should never happen. but at least I now have an example to share and can personally explain the low-key devastating effect it can have of someone.

My deadname of 18 years has risen from the grave - i discovered that it's been shared at work between staff who I don't personally know. Feels like a virus has been released among a workforce and I have no way to tell if it can be contained or how far it has spread.
