But it feels like what I expected after oral argument--an opinion that reflects an absolute sense of conviction--one that will inflame and is designed to deepen our divide even as it denounces Roe for doing the same

As an historian, I do a lot of talking to people with different views on abortion. The draft very much feels like something written by someone who has never done the same. The outcome of this is no surprise. The tone and lack of empathy are.

If Alito gets a majority for his opinion in current form, the dissents are going to be very powerful. Saying women shouldn’t have rights today b/c it wasn’t custom & history in this country for men to grant them to them may not turn be the compelling argument he thinks it is.
