@RShepherd68 @unusual_whales I get the impulse for the right to callout the hypocrisy of libs not caring about egregious Biden family influence peddling, but it that wipes away your concern about more-egregious Trump family influence peddling you should question if you actually care about influence peddling

"In his second administration, President Trump’s family, including his son-in-law Jared Kushner and sons Eric and Don Jr., are expanding their business ventures, earning hundreds of millions of dollars and prompting fresh concerns about influence peddling and conflicts of interest," per PBS

@Jonathan_Witt I never said it was a pure free market. There is plenty of government regulation (formula-based pricing for eg) but the current setup allows for the likes of Sasol and BP to profit from supply shocks. Why don’t you tell us who in the supply chain is “profiteering unscrupulously”?

@L_1_AM I would I’m just astonished that you truly believe this is actually the free market. Usually that kind of naivety is reserved for libertarians.

Natref makes a significant portion of our jet fuel. Oil went up by 50% but the jet fuel price has increased by 250%. Just like during covid someone is profiteering unscrupulously and will continue to do so until people start asking questions.

@Jonathan_Witt & not a libertarian. I’m merely demonstrating that if you want lower prices then you need government intervention to not only suppress prices but to also ban exports. I would’ve thought you’d consider that government overreach on a private sector

@Jonathan_Witt What do you mean it’s not happening?? BP reported yesterday that their Q1 profits were up 131% vs last year. Refining margins (that explain jet fuel prices vs crude prices) are exploding because of lack of oil supply for the refiners. It is simple market dynamics not conspiracy!

@mattymore @Bruceps The post is about platinum in EV batteries, for which there is none (not any of the PGM metals). PGM’s go in autocatalytic converters, not batteries. Maybe use your brain first before labelling others clowns… it may make you look less of a moron 👍

Joke of the century so far!!!!!,! Blade Nzimande’s Dept of Science and Technology tries to blend Cutting Edge industry policy and Transformation in a pretty picture for young black voters and makes the most basic scientific and industrial error. Platinum has No, Zero, Nil role in the batteries of EVs as this ad tries to demonstrate. It is ignorant and misleading and typical of a mentally disintegrating State…..

ARGENTINA MAKES A BOLD MOVE ON THE FALKLANDS Just hours after the United States reaffirmed its neutrality in the Falklands dispute, the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz has arrived in Argentine territorial waters at the personal request of President Milei. Milei has now issued an emergency decree for joint naval exercises with the US right off the Falklands coast. This has left the British government visibly rattled. Starmer continues to destroy our once great nation one idiotic decision at a time.

@Jonathan_Witt Is SA importing Brent - which is North Sea light crude? Start by taking the right indicator, 2 of you @Le__Chiffre_ 0 functioning brain This is the formula: BFP + Transport Costs + Wholesale Margin + Retail Margin + Taxes (Fuel Levy + RAF Levy) + Slate Levy + Other Costs

Yeah and I *constantly* have some people telling me that it’s based on the futures while others tell me it’s based on spot while still others claim it’s market based, none of which can justify why fuel prices are higher now than they were in 2022. Truth is it’s just profiteering.
Le Chiffre@Le__Chiffre_

@DailyInvestorSA But the increases was based on $113/barrel. since April 8 the price is constantly below $100/barrel. so prices should be revised downward? @Jonathan_Witt

@Jonathan_Witt @the_gregdavies @GarethCliff You do know you have to take into account that actual spot crude price right? (about $20 above the typically quoted 1 month futures price). And the refinining margin is also elevated due to shortages. Your take is too simplistic if you are just looking at the futures price

@the_gregdavies @GarethCliff I’ve posted multiple times over the past month explaining why the size of the increases in fuel prices are not consistent with the actual data. My assumptions are based in both maths and historical precedents.

So it appears as if the fuel price isn’t actually linked to the oil price but is merely another lever for specific individuals to make a lot of money on the back of narrative based panic. Thus for no mathematical reason the fuel price will continue to rise ridiculously until the public either just accepts their new reality or until they start asking questions and refusing to abide by the con. Then normality will return while the middle class has taken yet another massive hit to their wealth. It’s quite incredible how this keeps happening and will continue to do so because the average person is both perpetually fascinated by the current thing and essentially unable to think outside of this one moment in time. It’s so tiresome.

All the “experts” were wrong about Iran. Donald J Trump was right. If you believed the “experts” again and had the rug pulled from under you perhaps you should be reconsidering some of your assumptions. Or just carry on letting life happen to you.

The costs of striking Iran are real. But so is the nuclear threat. Iran entered 2026 with enough uranium for 10 nuclear bombs. Before the June strikes, it was days away from enriching enough for 1 bomb—a level far beyond plausible civilian needs. Operation Epic Fury is working. We are systematically dismantling Iran’s war machine: missiles, drones, air defenses, navy, nuclear sites, defense industry, proxy networks, central command. In under 3 weeks, the supreme leader is dead, his successor wounded, and Iranian ballistic missile and drone launches are down 90%+. Iran is losing capacity faster than it can create chaos. "War is never clean. But the strategy—the actual strategy, measured in degraded capabilities rather than cable news cycles—is working." Excellent article. aljazeera.com/opinions/2026/…

🚨 Arteta on ‘bottling’ narrative: “A tremendous reaction again, and I'm not surprised at all”. “I would say, because to predict somebody with a 0.2 expected goal, probably and one shot to concede an equaliser, the manner that we did it, is nobody can really understand that”. “This is football and that's the beauty of it. And that was a chapter. So we have a long season, chapter 27 says, okay, we drew against Wolves in this manner”. “What I'm very interested is about the next one, is what we are made of”.

Thanks, I appreciate that. Perhaps I was unclear. I said “people,” not “a person.” Did Charlie say that all Biden supporters were fascists? Or scum? Because what I saw was Charlie Kirk engaging in good faith conversations with those who opposed him politically
