UN Delegates just voted to recognise the Transatlantic slave trade as a crime against humanity. Britain abstained. This refusal to support this motion only places our government more at odds with the global majority. The call for reparatory justice is only getting louder.

bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… Some of us have been saying for years that shared ownership is a very bad deal, with huge and unpredictable service charges, and a low chance of staircasing whilst paying both rent and mortgage. It has made lots of money for developers but should not be classed as affordable housing. Build council housing!

This week, Ghana will table a historic resolution at the UN to recognise the transatlantic trafficking and enslavement of Africans as a crime against humanity. I’ve written to the government to ask whether they will support this and, if not, why?

Save the Children UK@savechildrenuk·
As families across Sudan marked the end of Ramadan, at least 64 people, including 13 children, were reportedly killed when a drone strike hit a major hospital in el-Daein, the capital of East Darfur state. Eid al-Fitr should be a day of joy, celebration and spending time with loved ones. Instead, children in Sudan are being killed in places where they should be safe. Since the conflict started almost three years ago, it's been reported that drones have been used in over 1,000 attacks, killing civilians including children. Children are not only caught in the crossfire but in many cases, they are directly targeted or suffer the long-term consequences of conflict. They should not be paying the price for a conflict they did not create. The UK Government must do everything it can to ensure the perpetrators of these horrific crimes are held to account, and push for an immediate end to the violence. I was standing in solidarity outside Parliament last week with the fantastic Emma and this wonderful group of dedicated campaigners from the Mothers Manifesto who were fasting for five days. Their message is that no child should ever go hungry and that hunger is a political choice. I look forward to their involvement in the #RightToFoodCommission @mothers_manif

Great to see such strong support for @lpoolcouncil’s Anti-Racism Strategy while we’re in the city centre standing firmly against the UKIP mobilisation today. #ThisIsLiverpool - a city of hope, not hate.

My interview this morning on my fear we are on an escalator drawing our country into a dangerous & disastrous war. We are a sovereign country not a Trump colony & must ally with others to de-escalate to secure a negotiated settlement to secure peace & stabilise the global economy

We reiterate our call for all parties to the conflict in the #MENA region to refrain from unlawful attacks on energy infrastructures. The potential for vast, predictable, and devastating civilian harm arising from strikes targeting energy infrastructure, including uncontrolled deadly fires, major disruptions to essential services, environmental damage, and severe long-term health risks for millions. Civilians must be protected.

I’m on my way to Cuba for an emergency 3-day visit. I’ll be delivering medical aid to a children’s cancer hospital and joining an international delegation of MPs opposed to Trump’s new ban on any fuel entering the country. This cruel policy is putting lives at risk. It is an inhumane attempt to strangle the Cuban people. And Trump is even threatening that Cuba could be “next” after Iran. We must take a stand.

I've joined members from across Labour to call for a reset to protect our party's values and future. For our party to recover, we must restore democracy, return to our founding principles and reject the current top-down approach. Read our statement: resetlabour.co.uk

The Foreign Secretary @YvetteCooperMP has today announced how the UK Government plans to spend the overseas aid budget, which they slashed last year. While we welcome the focus on innovation and move to work more in partnership with countries, the Government's efforts to frame this as a positive story will ring hollow for all the children around the world losing access to lifesaving healthcare, education and protection.

It’s official! The law scrapping the two-child benefit cap has been passed. We have more work to do to tackle child poverty but this is a crucial step forwards, ending a damaging experiment which forced children and their families into needless hardship.
