Sunnyside frontcourt standout AJ Yañez had 15 points and played like the senior captain she is with her intensity while also being a calming influence to her teammates in the 46-23 victory over Nogales in the MLK Classic game at McKale.

The evening was extra special with his wife Llahairia honored at halftime by the Coaches for Charity because of her work behind the scenes preparing the snack bar for parent volunteers, helping make team gear, cleaning the locker room, hanging banners, braiding the players’ hair and assisting school staff during games.

AJ Yañez’s post presence was a factor in Sunnyside’s 45-43 win over Wasilla (Alaska) in the Flowing Wells Holiday Shootout championship. She had 18 points before fouling out with almost 2 minutes left.

Esa Bajaras had 10 of her 12 points in the second half, including a couple of clutch 3-pointers, to lead Sunnyside to a 45-43 win over Wasilla (Alaska) in the championship game of the Flowing Wells Holiday Shootout.
