I found a voicemail on my phone… from my own number. It was 43 seconds long. I don’t remember recording it. I don’t even remember making a call. The message started with heavy breathing. Then my own voice said, “Whatever you do… don’t go home tonight.” I laughed. I assumed it was some weird glitch. After work, I drove home anyway. As I pulled into my street, I noticed three police cars parked outside my apartment building. My front door had been forced open. The officer asked if I lived there. When I said yes, he looked relieved. He told me someone had broken into my apartment less than an hour earlier. The intruder ran when a neighbor called 911. Nothing had been stolen. Nothing had been damaged. The only strange thing? Every single family photo in my apartment had been turned face down. The officer asked if I had any enemies. I said no. He asked if anyone had threatened me recently. Again, no.
