Found out today that some friends of ours, trads, have only one kid left practicing the faith because the kids grew up to run from the overly strict moral views of their parents. Begging you good folks to make our faith first about encounter and friendship with Christ and to avoid being too strict and imposing more than the Church does. I’ve seen it break so many over the years. Let your kids enjoy things, provided they are not sinful. I’m begging you. Don’t wrap your own hang-ups in the Catholic identity.

Had Lefebvre and the Society not so firmly tied the TLM to outright rejection of Vatican II and accusations of Rome having "lost the faith", the TLM itself would be even MORE widespread today, and there would be less of an ecclesiastical stigma against "trads".

@godiezim_m @JeffCassman @TradJackBurton It's more likely to do with your culture. A lot of diocesan tlms are the result of laity and or priests making it happen. Because sspx don't work within boundaries of diocese they are able to start a chapel anywhere.

@WalkingHymnal Among the overwhelming majority of the hiearchy, there isn't an inherent stigma against trads. There is among a corp of revolutionaries mad things didn't go their way, but that's a them problem, not a trad problem.

This is extremely doubtful. Even before the SSPX had been suspended by Paul VI, there was a universal hostility towards the TLM. As @HandMissals demonstrated copiously, this happened BEFORE the Novus Ordo was even implemented.

Its been two decades but the neo-catholics are back to hitting the pipe I see regarding the SSPX.
Its their fault the hierarchy was demonized the TLM, had they not existed it was sunshine and roses.

@CatholicSmark @HandMissals Early pioneers fighting for the TLM and even still we must combat the nonsense views that they possess. My teenage children were literally told this week by their sspx teenager friends that if they attend a NO it was a sin.

Says state of necessity is “even more evident in 2026” & that any declaration of excommunication or schism against the SSPX “would be objectively unjust”
Given that position, he states SSPX members do not “seek such a sanction or rejoice in it.”
Cites John 16:1-4 care for souls & charity, “that, now more than ever, we must love souls and Holy Mother Church, even if its official representatives were to declare us excommunicated and schismatic once again”

I’m realizing that most folks on this site who are simping for the SSPX are just too new to the debate to have all the relevant details of the situation ready to hand. tl/dr: Rome has been more than patient over the decades but the concessions the SSPX demand will never happen.
