duality of man

Grain Stolen from Ukraine: “Non-Kosher” for Israel, but “Kosher” for Turkey? The Panamanian-flagged dry cargo ship Panormis has been at the center of international scandals for the past two months. After leaving a russian port on the Black Sea, the ship delivered tens of thousands of tons of grain to the shores of Israel in April 2026, which, according to a statement by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, included grain stolen from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine in the Azov region. Following a high-profile campaign in the Israeli media, the delivery of a note of protest to the Israeli ambassador in Kyiv, and protests by the pro-Ukrainian community in Israel, a local importer refused to accept grain from this ship—to avoid reputational damage. This grain incident demonstrated the importance of moral choice and reputation for most Israelis. In light of this incident with the Panormitis, I wrote a letter to my friend—Israeli Minister of Economy @NirBarkat Barkat—proposing a shift toward reducing purchases of Russian grain to cut Israel’s dependence on a single supplier. But after spending nearly three weeks at sea 50 kilometers west of Haifa, the dry cargo ship Panormis made a rapid dash north on May 12, entered Turkish territorial waters, and by the night of May 13, 2026, was 17 kilometers from the port of Iskenderun (Alexandretta). As of 11:00 a.m. on May 13, the ship remains in the same location alongside other vessels, awaiting entry and unloading at the Turkish port of Iskenderun. I am confident that the @MFA_Ukraine / MFA of Ukraine will not apply double standards. The head of Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, @andrii_sybiha, previously served as Ukraine’s successful ambassador to Turkey for five years—and I am confident that he knows the best ways to influence the Turkish leadership to prevent the unloading of grain stolen from Ukraine at the Turkish port What Kyiv criticized Israel for will not be permitted for Turkey. What is “unacceptable” for Israel is just as unacceptable for Turkey
