Russia is turning Ukrainian nuclear facilities into weapons of war against Ukraine and Europe. Russia invaded and occupied the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant in 2022, putting the Exclusion Zone and its critical systems at risk. In 2025, a Russian Shahed drone struck the New Safe Confinement of the Chornobyl NPP, damaging the protective structure over the destroyed reactor. The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant remains under temporary Russian occupation since 2022. Russia located military equipment and weapons on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, turning Europe’s largest nuclear facility into a military asset. These actions show a clear pattern of nuclear blackmail. This cannot continue. Russia must be stopped and held accountable. #Chornobyl40

On World Press Freedom Day, we thank every journalist, photographer, fixer, editor, and media worker who continues to tell the world the truth about Ukraine. Ukrainian and foreign journalists document Russia's war crimes, report from frontline cities, and preserve the stories of people living through this war. Many risk their lives to make sure the truth is seen and heard. Some have paid for it with their freedom or their lives. This year, Ukraine rose seven places in the World Press Freedom Index by Reporters Without Borders, reaching 55th place among 180 countries. Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukraine has climbed 50 positions in the ranking. At the same time, Russia continues persecuting journalists for doing their work, with 26 Ukrainian media workers currently held captive. They must be released and returned home. Free journalism is one of the most powerful tools against propaganda, disinformation and attempts to hide the truth. Thank you to everyone who continues to report, document, investigate and speak up.

During a meeting with Prime Minister of Finland @PetteriOrpo, I thanked him for Finland’s recent decision to allocate an additional $300 million in defense support for Ukraine. We sincerely appreciate this, and we discussed priority areas of our defense – particularly air defense – that can be strengthened with this package. I proposed to the Prime Minister that we strengthen our bilateral partnership by signing an agreement in the format of the Drone Deal. Ukraine is ready to share its expertise and strengthen those who have been strengthening us since the very beginning of the full-scale invasion. We also touched on international cooperation, particularly our European integration. There is now a good window of opportunity to open the negotiating clusters, and Ukraine fully deserves this. I thank Finland for its support.

I met with the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre @jonasgahrstore, in Yerevan. I thanked Norway for all its support for our country, in particular for its contributions to the PURL initiative totaling nearly $1 billion. Russia is not stopping its ballistic missile strikes, so the timely funding of PURL is critically important. We discussed our strategic partnership: the Drone Deal and efforts to strengthen air defense, as well as cooperation at the level of the private and public sectors. We paid special attention to energy support for Ukraine. I informed the Prime Minister of our needs, particularly regarding natural gas, for the coming winter. Ukraine must enter it prepared. I am grateful to Norway and personally to Jonas for the readiness to help.

Together with the Ukrainian delegation led by President @ZelenskyyUa, I arrived in Yerevan. We are here to turn coordination into action and commitments into results.

Arrived in Yerevan to take part in the European Political Community Summit. Many meetings ahead. The key priority is more security and coordination for all of us. Glory to Ukraine!

Two people were killed and seven injured after a Russian FPV drone struck a regular city minibus in Kherson, another deliberate Russian attack on civilians in Ukraine’s frontline regions. In Kharkiv, at least six people were injured by Russia's attack. Strikes were also reported against energy infrastructure in Mykolaiv region, while other Russian attacks targeted Dnipro, Odesa, Sumy, and Donetsk regions. Russia is increasingly using mass attacks to overload Ukraine’s air defence systems, making the continued supply of air defence missiles critical. Over the past week alone, Russia launched around 1,600 attack drones, nearly 1,100 guided aerial bombs, and three missiles at Ukraine. This is why sanctions must be strengthened as any easing only refills Russia’s war budget. The loopholes and schemes Russia uses to bypass restrictions must be closed.

Based on the results from April, our long-range sanctions have reached a new level across three components: reducing Russia’s oil revenues, as well as the range and intensity of sanctions. It is important that not only is the target itself reached, as defined by the operational objective, but that the downtime of the target is increased or, at the very least, its operations are significantly reduced. According to the most conservative estimates, since the beginning of the year, the aggressor state has lost at least $7 billion solely as a direct result of our precise sanctions against Russia’s oil industry and refining sector – due to direct hits, downtime, and delays in shipments. I am grateful to all our warriors of the Defense Forces of Ukraine who, together with the Security Service of Ukraine and our intelligence agencies, are delivering these results. We will scale up our long-range systems capabilities. Decisions are being prepared. Glory to Ukraine!

Recent developments around the 2026 Venice Biennale, such as the jury’s decision to resign, demonstrate the consequences of decisions taken by leading international art platforms. The aggressor’s culture is not neutral in the times of war and must never be utilised to serve the interests of the aggressor, to whitewash its crimes, and to spread its propaganda. From the very beginning, @la_Biennale’s cowardly choice to admit Russia has been disgraceful. Today, we see how it continues to harm the Venice Biennale. Ukraine is grateful to all those who, guided by moral responsibility and a commitment to democratic values, refuses to accept this disgrace. We renew our call on the Venice Biennale to reverse its decision and keep Russia away. There is still time to return to a principled stance that the international art community has upheld since the beginning of Russia’s brutal full-scale war against Ukraine.

Grateful to President @ZelenskyyUa for his vision, leadership, and energy in advancing Ukraine’s national interests in international fora. Today, we had a thorough discussion on key topics, from increasing pressure on the aggressor and countering Russia’s shadow grain fleet, to speeding up Ukraine’s EU accession and bolstering the Ukrainian diplomacy. In all areas, the goal is to strengthen Ukraine’s positions and achieve a lasting peace. Our team is working without pauses.

All children are our children. Today I took part in the Civil Society and Expert Day, a key preparatory event ahead of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children high-level meeting, which will be held in Brussels on May 11, 2026. Russia’s abduction of Ukrainian children is not an abstract issue. It is a systematic crime, comparable to the darkest pages of the 20th century. This is happening now, in Europe, and the response must match the scale of the crime. We have already brought home over 2,000 children. But this is only a fraction. The gap between the number abducted and the number returned remains unacceptable. That is why we are scaling efforts, building new mechanisms, and turning political attention into concrete action. Accountability is not optional. Deportation of Ukrainian children has already been recognized as a crime against humanity. Arrest warrants have been issuing. Sanctions have been expanding. Every individual involved, from decision-makers to those executing these crimes, must face consequences. No exceptions. Our goal is clear. Every child must be brought home. Every crime must be prosecuted. There will be no compromises on this. Grateful to the @BringKidsBackUA team and all partners, civil society, and volunteers working every day to return our children. Your work delivers real results and keeps this issue at the top of the international agenda.

Russia killed a person and injured at least seven others in its drone strike on the Dnipro region, with civilian infrastructure including homes, shops, and transport damaged. Across Ukraine, overnight Russian attacks involving over 200 drones and missiles hit multiple regions, causing power outages and destruction. Dozens of civilians were affected by this attack. Sanctions and coordinated international pressure remain crucial to stop Russia’s war.

One of the most cynical Russian war crimes is the systematic, calculated transfer of Ukrainian children, scattering them across Russia, concealing their fate, “reprogramming” their culture, and continuously, shamelessly subjecting them to militarization. It is vitally important to bring our children back home from there. Before the Russians break them. And every initiative, every activity, every effort that helps achieve this also helps Ukraine. I said this while addressing participants of the Civil Society and Expert Day. Thanks to our Bring Kids Back UA initiative, we have secured 2,126 returns, and we will continue this work. We have engaged strong international mediators to help bring the children home. I am grateful to every country that has joined our Coalition for the Return of Children. I want to thank every leader of the countries contributing to the effort, and every First Lady of countries that care and are concerned about the fate of abducted children. I thank our Bring Kids Back team. I am grateful to all diplomats, international organizations, and journalists who maintain focus on the rescue of children.

Servicemembers of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine stand every day in defence of Ukraine, countering threats both on the front line and in the rear, continuously fighting enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups, and monitoring the situation as well as the movement of Russian forces near the borders. On this Border Guard Day in Ukraine, we are grateful to each and every one who is in service today – to those who protect Ukraine day and night. Eternal honour and remembrance to those who have fallen protecting Ukraine. Glory to Ukraine! 🇺🇦

I have instructed our representatives to contact the team of the President of the United States and clarify the details of Russia’s proposal for a short-term ceasefire. Ukraine seeks peace and is doing the necessary diplomatic work to bring this war to a real end. We will clarify what exactly this is about – a few hours of security for a parade in Moscow, or something more. Our proposal is a long-term ceasefire, reliable and guaranteed security for people, and a lasting peace. Ukraine is ready to work toward this in any dignified and effective format.

Odesa was hit by a Russian massive overnight strike on April 30, causing widespread destruction and fires across different parts of the city. At least 18 people were injured. Residential areas were struck, with apartments in both a five-storey and a 17-storey building catching fire, along with a private house and a nearby hotel. Fires were also reported in warehouses, as well as administrative and educational buildings. Dozens of buses and cars were destroyed. This must not continue. More pressure on Russia is needed to stop its war of aggression.

Russia’s reckless aggression has damaged the New Safe Confinement at Chornobyl, creating real nuclear risks for Europe. We welcome the decision of the United States to allocate up to $100 million to support the restoration of safety systems at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. We appreciate American contribution and the collective G7 effort to ensure nuclear safety in Europe.
