God, as Creator, has the sovereign right to judge nations and take life. It was measured retribution against a nation guilty of prolonged, unrepentant oppression and murder of children, after many warnings, while offering clear protection to those who turned to God. It was also indiscriminate. The Isralites who didn't listen to God were given the same fate.
