They all felt awkward and unhappy suddenly, because it was a sort of good-bye they were saying, and they didn’t want to think about it. So they stood around, and waited for somebody else to speak, and they nudged each other, and said “Go on.” ~A.A.Milne

The healing narrative puts the work back on the victims. We need to talk about the justice narrative as there is more “healing” to be done by the offender than the victim.

A few weeks ago I confronted a convoy group on the street and asked them to stop using the Every Child Matters flag for their discriminatory aims. They asked “who do you think you are? what “have you ever done?” with a few swear words mixed in. Enough said- they are dishonourable

Alright friends, gentle reminder to be mindful with language. I’m seeing a lot of “our Indigenous” and “the Indigenous” and no word following it when referencing Indigenous folx as of late. If you are not Indigenous yourself refrain from using “our”. It’s a possessive. /1

On Monday, when the sun is hot I wonder to myself a lot: “Now is it true, or is it not, “That what is which and which is what?” On Wednesday, when the sky is blue, And I have nothing else to do, I sometimes wonder if it’s true That who is what and what is who. ~A.A.Milne #poem

Canada owes a great debt to former @cbc journalist Jody Porter, who has now left this world. She fought to cover the inquest into the deaths of seven First Nations high school students. She was there, every single day for 8 months. Her voice made change. Rest easy, my friend.

“We claim in the mainstream media that the helpful narrative is that First Nations People are rediscovering who they are and you know, who are those fingers pointing back? As Canadians we don’t have a clue who we are …” Jody Porter

Today is 10,025th day of boil water advisory for #Neskantaga. Community members are given 1.5 litres a day to bathe, drink, or cook. This pic was shared to me by the grandfather of the child who gets skin irritations using the community tap water. #boilwateradvisory #waterislife
