AIPAC's 80-year-old Rep. David Scott [D-#GA13] has passed away.
Support anti-genocide candidate @evertonblairjr to fill his seat!

Georgia Democratic Rep. David Scott has died. The longtime lawmaker was the first Black chair of the House Agriculture Committee. politico.com/live-updates/2…

@ScottPresler Sure it is, it mandates new Congressional districts out of which Democrats could get 10 because you losers fucking lost lol
English

@LisaForCongress Y'all shouldn't have tried to play stupid games in TX, now look at you. Pathetic.

@Manish_K85 @PpollingNumbers Votes are still coming in and the areas where they will be 'yes' outnumber what's left in areas where it will be 'no'

@Axxeras @Gimme__Chips @gIasspigeon @emilyis_emilies Deaf people establish name signs that are usually based on a physical or personality trait of the person. Bruno's most immediately distinguishing feature is his hooded cloak, hence that being his name sign.
English

@Gimme__Chips @gIasspigeon @emilyis_emilies I'm NOT Deaf but iirc some people make signs to represent their names? Or something like that, like how the other commenter said that in this song Bruno has a sign for his name
English

i’m not deaf or know sign language so take this with a huge grain of salt: this is really cool and all but doesn’t some of the signs being obscured or off-screen kinda defeat the point?

@Gimme__Chips @gIasspigeon @emilyis_emilies At the 9 second mark she establishes Bruno's name sign (the motion of putting on a hood)
English

@gIasspigeon @emilyis_emilies Out of curiosity as well, I doubt every name has a specific hand motion in ASL, so how are they saying "Bruno" in the song? Are they doing a motion for the word "him" instead or something?
English

@emilyis_emilies I see its been explained in the comments, but I think its really wonderful these questions are being asked and more people are learning about ASL and Deaf culture
English

@tommyjusa @TheDemocrats Why are all you former Obama people such losers now lol
English

I cannot express with words how enraging this tweet is from the former DNC chair who allowed Joe Biden to run for a second term & had a heavy hand in creating the existential crisis both America & @TheDemocrats face today.

@LampostBob @WonderKing82 The socialist is not a viable candidate in the race
English

@basedog14 @WonderKing82 I'm not talking about him, no. What a shame you don't know who is running!
English

@basedog14 @WonderKing82 A socialist is running right now what are you talking about
English

@WonderKing82 Liberals still don’t understand it’s about policy. Steyer embraced full single payer. If bought and sold Karen Porter would embrace single payer in our most left leaning state she would run away with the nomination. It’s her own fault. Progressives care about policy, not identity

@nalushipfeak @Inter_Soup ASL and English are different languages. English is a second language to the vast majority of deaf people, its always better to have it in your native language. It's like having another language dubbed over, this one is just visual.
English

@Inter_Soup to me comes off as a waste and what was the point of having subtitles for the movie which wouldn't be a hassle since you just have to add words that the deaf can read instead of having the animators go back and animate ASL when parts of it will be missed like here.
English

I decided to put them side-by-side for fun

English

@alexhorner2002 @Inter_Soup In ASL mouth movements are part of the grammar. ASL is not English, it wouldn't make sense to mouth English over signs. Further, only about 30% of spoken English can be lip read in real life, it would probably be less in animation.
English

@Inter_Soup Why are they not mouthing the words in addition to the hand gestures? Wouldn’t this help people that can mouth read?
English

@catgirlprostate The use of the mouth is a part of ASL grammar, that is why its animated like that.
English

This is super cool from a representation and accessibility standpoint, but having the lyrics still be audible but the lips moving but not matching gives this such an uncanny vibe

@nymphatix @catgirlprostate You'll also have parts that don't need a translation because the animation gets the point across; for example the lyric "Bruno walks in with a mischevious grin" is happening on screen and doesn't really need to be shown in sign.
English

@nymphatix @catgirlprostate ASL is not a word for word translation of English. There will be parts where the singing is happening but not signing because the concept has already been expressed in ASL.
