@jasonjamesbnn Despite people saying 'alot of people were afraid to sign' or 'we had to turn people away because of po box addresses' - the reaility is : 302k signatures will not project to 1.5 million votes. And 1.5mil is right on the line.

Unfortunately, I have a pessimistic view as of right now. I live just outside of Calgary and I can tell you there's still a lot of Canada here—and by that I mean people who are hopelessly devoted to the status quo. I don't think most people here can imagine an identity outside of being Canadian, even though being Canadian is what's hurting them. Trump wants Alberta, and whoever comes next, be they Democrat or Republican, will want Alberta strictly from a resource perspective. Republicans will want us as voters since Alberta is as conservative a state as Texas or Tennessee, Democrats would want us as a territory like Puerto Rico or Guam. I don't think true independence is in the cards for Alberta since independence will lead to economic and potentially defense conflicts with Canada. We will need the US to guarantee our sovereignty as either a territory or a state. But we have to vote first, and that's a big step. I just hope Albertans find the courage to step into the unknown.
