Oystercatcher Green A22, originally ringed @LaneMarsh on 13/06/2019, has just been spotted 90km away in Whixall (16/02/2026). Six years on and still telling a story, one set of colour rings at a time. 💚

First Oyk of the year yesterday, drake RC Pochard was a nice surprise, plenty of Redwings, Bittern seen despite the misty start and high water levels

Very sad days for WMBC as maybe our oldest friend has passed away. Eric 'Sam' Clare, aged 99, RIP. I've been fortunate to have known Sam since the 70's & although I haven't seen him in a while I fondly remember the Sundays at Blithers with Sam, Eric, John et al. RIP all of you.

Productive couple of hours yesterday morning with 178 Swallows, 5HM,1SM south plus 15 MPs ,14 GO and 1st 2 Siskins of year. Also (at last for me) Osprey over .

✨ Barn Owls are just magical! Last night on Packington Estates, Solihull we re-caught a ringed bird, turns out it was one we’d ringed as a chick just 2km away @LaneMarsh in 2023. 💫 Wonderful to see it thriving and staying local! 🦉💛 #BarnOwl

Fantastic news! A Nightjar was ringed at @LaneMarsh last night, just a stone’s throw from Birmingham Airport ✈️. That makes 6 in 4 years, all juveniles, highlighting a clear migration route for these elusive birds 🌙🪶. #Nightjar #BirdMigration

Another good count of LRP today (10 minimum) with a constant turnover both between and during days . C and G Sands moving back and forth to River .

Waders today : 7 LRP, 2 C SAND ,1 GREEN SAND , still 4 OYK Inc fledged young, 56 LAPWING Inc 3 fledged young. Plenty of warblers too. Only hirundines to 10 am were 15 HM and 1 SM

A Wood Sand all day plus juv LRP were welcome in the Marsh Lane heat today. Also some well grown Lapwing chicks!

Good early spring passage today. First C Tern, 3 Blackwits , Avocet . Still 3 Ruff from last week..also GWE

7 moulting Ruff dropped into ML at 10.30 and after moving pools , were still present at 11.40 . Joint record count . Hopefully photos to follow .

Recovery: Common Tern A01, originally colour ringed @LaneMarsh on 09/07/2020 as a chick. Was seen on 24/07/2024 in Saint Pair sur mer, France, which is a distance of 253 miles. This bird has been seen at Upper Bittell 2022, Brandon Marsh 2024 & Draycote Water 2024.

16 ad +1 juv WF Geese on Flood Plain at Marsh Lane NR was a nice surprise today. Our largest number. Prob ex Ladywalk flock. Also pr Stonechats and male Brambling. Duck nos v variable last few days
