Happy #WorldWildlifeDay2026! Today we celebrate this year's theme: "Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods" and we're sharing a story that brings it to life. In southern Cameroon's Campo Ma'an National Park, the Bagyeli Indigenous community has tended a living forest pharmacy for generations. Plants that treat childhood illnesses, infections, and chronic conditions grow here, sustained not just by soil and sun, but by wildlife. Elephants plant seeds as they travel. Gorillas and chimpanzees scatter fruit. Over 300 bird species pollinate and spread life across 264,000 hectares of forest. @AWF_Official, strategic partners, and the Government of Cameroon work with the Bagyeli across nine villages to protect this ecosystem, supporting rangers, building community nurseries, and strengthening livelihoods so families thrive alongside the wildlife and natural resources that sustain them. This World Wildlife Day, we're reminded that #conservation isn't just about animals or plants in isolation.
