Certain Silicon Valley VCs who turned against Biden pointed to the way he froze out Tesla for political reasons despite it being the industry leader. Some of those people are now in the administration doing the same thing to Anthropic.

(🧵1/10) With renewed attention on my recent @NewYorker reporting about Sam Altman and OpenAI, it's worth revisiting a piece I wrote for the magazine about another tech billionaire who has accumulated unusual leverage over the US government—and whose hand many readers have lately seen at work in their feeds.
For that story, I spent months interviewing more than thirty of Elon Musk's current and former colleagues, along with current and former officials at NASA, the Department of Defense, the FAA, the Department of Transportation, and OSHA. Many of their observations have only grown more relevant since.

i've picked up the pen so many times to write about being a woman in tech
and every time i chicken out because there's this catch-22: to talk about being a woman in tech, you need to have credibility. and once you start talking about it as a woman, you lose said credibility
so i'm going to mortgage some of my credibility to get this off my chest, as someone who has both had a pretty successful career in tech, and leads a team with a lot of women on it:
every woman you work with has had the most insane shit happen to her — on an almost daily basis. shit that makes you look at the camera and go "how did i end up here". from wild remarks about appearance to stalking and trauma dumping, and just constant dismissal from so many directions (employees, customers...). shit that you never tell anyone because they wouldn't believe you...
i recently learned that like 97% of my followers on here are men. so my challenge to you is just to sit with that for a moment. you don't need to do anything about it (other than try not to be that person). but you should be aware that that's what every woman you work with deals with

“Wah wah wah” is the right way to begin any response to GOP whining over gerrymandering.
But the substantive response is also spot-on.

Reporter: What do you make of Republicans saying that Virginia— AOC: Wah wah wah. We have asked Republicans for 10 years to ban partisan gerrymandering. And for 10 years, Republicans have said no. Republicans have fought for partisan gerrymanders across the United States of America. And these are the rules that they have set. And so if the Republican Party wanted to start this, they did this in North Carolina. They drew out three Democratic members of Congress in North Carolina. They did it in Texas. What they’re just mad at is that they have been accustomed to a Democratic Party that rolls over, doesn’t fight, and takes everything sitting down. And what they’re mad at right now is that we are here in a new day. And we have been asking the Democratic Party to stand up and fight, and now they did—and now the Republican Party doesn’t like the fact that they are fighting against someone who actually will stand up for the American people. So if Republicans decide that they would like to revisit a ban on partisan gerrymandering, I welcome them. We have the bill right here to end this all today. But they don’t want to, because they like pursuing and continuing to enact an unfair electoral landscape. And so we have an obligation to defend ourselves.
